I'll be starting work soon at 128 South Tryon. Can anyone advise as to where the cheapest parking within walking distance would be? The one day I went to the office for a meeting, I was in a lot about 2-3 blocks away, and it cost me $20 for the day I'm trying to get reimbursement through the company, but am not holding my breath.
Not sure of the cheapest garage. It will be expensive though. You should try and negiotiate it in your employment; that's what my fiance did. If you have to pay it yourself, you should go with a monthly pass to save some money.
Park at the corner of Morehead & Tryon by the enterprise car rental, lots range from $2-$3 for the day.
If you don't feel like the walk the free goldrush trolley takes you up Tryon.
Also on the corner of Graham and Trade St - they charge something like $3 a day. If you're feeling extra lazy, the red trolly bus (not sure what they're really called, but you can't miss them - and it's free) stops at that corner and can bring you to Tryon St.

Tried that, and they gave me the shaft. Apparently, they'll only reimburse management.
ivster: Both those links were very helpful. Looks like there are a few in the $90 range that wouldn't be too bad a walk. For the extra $20/mo over the inconvenience of the rail system, I'd rather the drive.
Thanks all for the help. Maybe I'll be able to milk a pass out of them in person.
Just as a follow up, I've been parking at the small surface lot at 228 South Church street until I buy a monthly pass elsewhere. Spaces are tight, but it's less than a block to the building and only $6 a day.
