We're looking at a house roughly between Harrisburg and Midland, a couple miles east of I-485 near Albermarle Rd in Cabarrus County. I have searched for info, but see nothing about Midland, and little about Harrisburg. I understand this is a rural area.

Can someone give me a sense of the drive to North Tryon Street near the Charlotte Amtrak Station? I can see there's no interstate to get you there.

Also, we'd use Hickory Ridge Middle and High Schools, which are more or less brand new. I haven't found any parent comments since they opened.

Anything about convenience to shopping is also appreciated.

thanks

I love driving through those areas. I think no parent comments are probably a good thing, since we as humans tend to make sure we comment about negativity and sometimes forget to post the positive. Check the schools out for yourself, its always a good start. I think your drive is going to be an exhausting on. I currently live in the township of Jackson (south waxhaw). My drive in 1 1/2 hours to Freedom drive. I avoid the highways as I saw they were too packed and i hated the bumper to bumper traffic and found providence works wonders.
I suggest picking a starting location and google map it. Move your line around to the most efficient route and see how long it says it takes. They are pretty accurate.
Love the rural lifestyle, hope you enjoy it.

I have friends whose children go to both of those schools and they have generally been happy with them. Not sure about the drive - would guess it's around 45 minutes - maybe longer during rush hour.

I just wanted to bump this post since I have basically the same questions as the original poster. I currently live in South Charlotte, and we're looking to build up in this exact area. I'm unfamiliar with the area, and right now I feel spoiled by my close access to shopping/dining in South Clt suburbs (Ballantyne, Blakeney, Stonecrest). I think i'll miss little developments like this.
So what are the shopping/dining hubs for someone living in the Harrisburg area? Is it pretty much Concord Mills? Thanks!

The drive to that Amtrak station is going to be a long one. Lots of traffic lights and slow moving traffic during rush hour. It will probably require you to use Albemarle Rd. and then get onto either Central Ave. or Independence until you get downtown onto I-277 to North Tryon.

For the other poster, Harrisburg has very easy access to Concord Mills for shopping. You can either use Morehead Rd to get over near the Speedway then Bruton Smith Blvd to Concord Mills or you can use Hwy 49 and get on I-485 and then I-85 to get there.
