It seem like they actually didn't give the area much of a chance. I have also never been to a cookout. I can't wait to try although reviews are mediocre. I always wait and hold judgement after I have tried it.

This has some info. I always enjoyed Bojangles when I lived in Beckley. I think Chick Fil A dominates the chicken market through much of West Virginia, though. Bojangles was the "new kid on the block" that never really took off, in my opinion. Princeton is the only location left.

I don't think this will be the end of Bojangles in WV, though. I live in the Eastern Panhandle now and there are new Bojangles locations throughout Loudoun and Frederick, VA. I can see them jumping across the state line soon, especially in such a high-growth area.

Nice to see an investment in Quarrier Street. This is the kind of thing that gets young people to come into the city.

Hopefully it works out better than the re-birth of the Quarrier Street Diner. That restaurant didn't succeed at bringing enough people in to the city.

Best of luck to the former mayor. It will definitely bring something new to downtown, but he doesn’t seem to be in touch with what is needed in that location. Hopefully I’m wrong, but I just feel that stretch of Quarrier caters to a younger democratic, while a BBQ place might work over on Summers or Lee near the law firms and banks.

Why wouldn't "young people" like BBQ?

It’s not that young people don’t like BBQ, it’s just not something that I believe would be best in that area. The building that he located in is being converted into apartments aimed at attracting young professionals. His restaurant appears to be set up more for nostalgia and serving older clientele. Young people (I would know) typically like fast casual places, or places that serve craft beer and specialty foods. Not saying, he won’t have any customers, but I could see his shop doing better closer to the Gen X, Babyboomer crowd that works in the office towers.

I agree with Chris. That future of that location is going to be full of zennials/millennials. A nostalgic bbq joint doesn’t seem fitting. Maybe something like Holy Hog in Tampa would work? Quality but fast casual BBQ, with outdoor dining, brews and tv’s

BBQ + brews + cornhole + live music and a strong social media marketing campaign would be a huge hit with the young demos. BBQ alone though...not so much.

Something like this:
