The Post and Courier is reporting that Amazon has given the Port of Charleston a “once-over,” comparing their interest thus far to that of Walmart’s before that company decided to build the massive Summerville distribution center now under construction. Nothing else to report at this point. Amazon hasn’t responded to further inquiries by the P&C as of earlier this afternoon.

Actually it was the SPA’s sales and marketing executive who was “reluctant to disclose” further information about the Amazon talks that took place last week, because the plans haven’t been finalized. I’m always scared newspaper reporters are going to kill the deal by reporting on things at such an early stage. But the deals usually seem to pan out.
Thrilllist’s “10 Cities With Amazing Beaches To Recharge In Right Now”
“If you can tear yourself away from the fascinating historical monuments, stellar Southern food, and charming hotels of downtown Charleston, some of the South’s best beaches await you. There’s Folly Beach, sometimes known as “The Edge of America,” with its stunning ocean views; Sullivan’s Island’s charming restaurants and kiteboarding; or Kiawah Island..”
What can we say? Personally, I must say that living in the city of Charleston four miles from the peninsula and six miles from Folly Beach is special.
Just in: Charleston Place will be locally owned and the property will undergo substantial investment as billionaire philanthropist Ben Navarro purchases it.
Wow, this sounds great to me. The first time we stayed there was 1987. That property almost by itself began the rebirth of a run down King Street and was a catalyst for the entire city, but would never be built today because it would be gentrification!
I didn’t go to this restaurant today, so I won’t post this news in that thread. Fleet Landing has had its lease extended through 2049. It was set to expire in 2024.
The Cooper Hotel is going up adjacent to the restaurant, and the Waterfront Park walkway is being extended across the front (waterfront side) of the hotel’s property to the restaurant.
Additionally, a much improved boardwalk leading from Concord Street to the restaurant has already been built and is in use.
Now there’s a goal for me to consider. To eat there on their farewell or lease renewal night at 91.
