We are visiting I.O.P after Christmas, through New Years. I have a couple of decently behaved (albeit not perfect) 7 year old girls. I'm looking for some nice non-chain kid friendly places to eat dinner in Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, I.O.P etc. I've been in the places around the Market and would rather avoid those. I've heard that most decent resturants in Charleston proper don't want kids, so they don't offer any kids menus or such. I will not be going to Hymans or Sticky Fingers etc. What about SNOB, or 84 Queen? Are kids welcome there or do I have to wait a few more years before going there?
I think it's a shame that some of the more "upscale" restaurants give the impression that they don't cater to families, then again I understand that ambiance is often times more important than the food.
Still, I think there are great restaurants with terrific food to be had while visiting with the family. The Mustard Seed restaurants have wonderful menus and certainly welcome children. There's one in Mount Pleasant.
South End Brewery is certainly kid-friendly on East Bay Street about 4 blocks from Market.
S.N.O.B. does have excellent food and I think you'd be fine there with your kids. I don't know if the Maverick Kitchens restaurants (Snob, High Cotton, Old Village Post House, etc.) have children's menus though, but I doubt you'd be shunned for bringing in 7yr olds.
Dittos to South End Brewery!!
They let your kids and the parents draw on the tablecloths, they have a cool glass elevator they kids love and a kid friendly menu. Not too pricey either.
