I think most all the upscale restaurants are fairly priced compared to other tourist towns and cities. Your money in general buys a lot more food here than it will in many other places.
There are a lot of great restaurants downtown in the touristy areas. It's hard to recommend anything specific without knowing your tastes, but if you wander around Market Street, Meeting Street, King Street, and the surrounding areas, you'll find lots of reasonably priced restaurants. Many of them post their menus outside, too, so you can see what they serve and how much they cost.
We have eaten at High Cotton, Magnolia's and Slightly North of Broad (all on East Bay St.)....and all have been really good if you are looking for a nice "southern" dinner. In fact we've been to Charleston 4 times this past year and have not had a bad meal yet.
My favorite fairly priced restaurant so far is Vickerys. I have not been to the one downtown, but the one in Mt. Pleasant has great views and great atmosphere. I also love Basil Thai on King street downtown.
So with that said, do you have some suggestions? Thanks so much
Lou

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions around the $10-15 plate variety?

Also, away from the touristy areas would be graet as well
