It's funny ... I was on here last night reading a post about bugs and then tonight we found a strange bug. My dog actually found it. It was hanging in a bush in the backyard. He was growling and barking at it. My husband said it was a "big leaf" ... and it did look like one, but the way the dog was flipping out I knew it wasn't.

So we snipped the little branch it was on and brought it inside and took some pictures (below) and then put him back out in the bush. I don't know if you can tell by the pictures but he was about 5 inches long.

Thanks in advance.

Gina (Summerville, SC)

It'll be a moth/butterfly, sooner or later. Which type I'm not sure of. Some of them get to be around 5-7inches long in that stage before they start cocooning themselves. Here are some cousins: Order: Lepidoptera (butterflies, moths)

When I grew tomato plants I would have them ALL OVER, they loved those plants and would eat all the leaves off!

Have no clue what they are, but they came out in droves when those plants were blossoming!

Default don't know

I don't know if it stings. It was gone this morning when we went out and looked in the bush where we put it.
