I was comfortable with this because the dog was very friendly, and loved people. I had no idea it was animal aggressive. I was walking the dog around the MGM Grand. It was wall to wall people when, all of a sudden, I heard a loud scream. I looked down, and it appeared my dog had a rag doll in its mouth. Upon closer inspection, I saw she it was no doll at all. It was a small Pomeranian. The owner was screaming too. I immediately took the small dog out of my dogs mouth, and handed it to the owner. Unfortunately, the dog was severely injured, and animal control was called on me. When they came, they said that neither of us was at fault since both dogs were leashed. They said it was just an unfortunate incident, in which I agree. I feel I did do the right thing though, if I did not take immediate action by removing the dog, it most certainly would have been killed.
i'm sorry ... but how on earth can you be walking a large dog, albeit a friendly one, and not be aware of everything and everyone around you?? when i am walking my dogs, i see and know things and people before they do......

bet that woke you RIGHT up.......

On the Las Vegas Strip, sometimes it gets so packed that you are literally surrounded by people where you cannot see 2 feet in front of you. This dog was coming in the opposite direction, and my dog saw it before I did. The dog I was walking was a service dog for my roommate, and was extremely lovable to everyone. She had a service dog placard so I brought her into the stores and even casinos with me. I was shocked and caught totally off guard when this happened.

This is where legislation comes into play. A town near us passed a great viscious dog law. It includes all domestic pets must be contained. Cats included. That would have solved that. It also states any dog that attacks any other person or pet for any reason other than protecting it's home or another human or animal during the commission of a crime is automatically deemed a viscious dog. Viscious dogs must be kept confined in a structure. If they are allowed outdoors they have to be in an enclosed pen measuring no less than eight feet by ten feet with a concrete floor and solid roof. The wire guage has standards as well, to prevent them from escaping. They cannot be leash walked off their property, and when they are leash walked they must be muzzled. They cannot travel in the back of a pick up. They're very strict with their laws. Being a dog owner, I love it. I think we need to mandate people be responsible with their pets.

As for not allowing people to walk more than one large dog at a time, I had a 182 pound mastiff, a 125 pound rottie and a 95 pound shepherd and walked them all together on many occasions. The difference is, at 124 pounds, I had total voice control over every single one of them and never had a single problem. Don't think just because someone has more than one large dog they can't control them. If they are a responsible owner and have properly trained their dogs they can.

mrs1885: I agree with you, but your last sentence begins with a mighty big "If...". Cheers to you for being a responsible dog owner.

He HAD NO CONTROL..I believe what you say...but I am a very strong little dude and there is NO PHISICAL way you can stop TWO dogs that outweigh you...ANIMALS are much STRONGER than humans( pound for pound) SO sorry it is not physically possible. THAT SAID..I BELIEVE YOU CAN CONTROL your animals in the fashion you describe...but it is still unwise to walk so many large dogs...you cannot guarantee a large one would not try to get away. I have read stories of dogs breaking STEEL CHAINS...not many people are capable of that.

What right does someone have to put the general public in such danger. You seem responsible...this man WAS NOT..and MYSELF and a cat are suffering. How many children and adults are mauled/killed by cats every year...see my POINTS...you are walking OVER 400 lbs of dogs...not wise IMHO (ANDRE THE GIANT COULD NOT HOLD THEM BACK: YOU ARE FOOLING YOURSELF THINKING YOU PHYSICALLY ARE STRONGER THAN 400 LBS OF DOGS!!!).I still say if the dogs decide to NOT listen to you; there is NO WAY YOU COULD STOP THEM; I pray WE/I never have to find out the hard way!

I love how your town handles VICIOUS DOGS...AND I will pursue this same type of ordinance here in Sarasota. Thanx for your input..PEACE!

OH MY GOD! I would have went hysterical if I witnessed something like that and I would have went hysterical at the man who was walking the dogs! What a horriable way for a cat to die..

I'm confused. Did the dogs kill the cat or severely wound it? Didn't you say the owner hasn't been identified (of the cat)? Did you take the cat to the vet for care?

Have you put up signs on lightposts, etc., with the story of what happened and asking for identification of the dogs and the owner? Maybe that will help you get some results.

That guy is a total jerk. How can anyone be so unfeeling and cruel to allow something so heinous to occur and then just nonchalantly say to you, "I'll come rake your gravel". WTF???? Did you speak to the man at all? Did you rant at him or ask for his name, address, etc? I wonder if he's laying low now.

I think I'd want to feed those dogs some leaded hotdogs!!! And I'm a dog lover as well as a cat lover!!! Geesum. Poor kitty!!!!!!!!!!! If I'd seen that happen, I'd be unable to sleep as well. And I'd have my cage as rattled as yours is. I sure hope you can get something done about it.

The cat died.

I think those dogs should go to new homes where they can be better managed... or be put down.
