Beautiful.
I really love black cats, and am proud to be owned by one.

RE: "I really want you to pet me......."

I really love this pic. I'm sure I'm not the only cat person who has experienced 'The Look'. I've experienced it with my girl Gypsy a few times. She will be laying in my lap and looking up at me in that certain way, and it's like a little voice in her head is telling her to turn my face into a catnip toy. Of course she has never done anything like that, but I do have to watch what I'm doing when petting her. She gets over stimulated easily if she's not in the mood, and will do a number on my hand/arm if I'm not paying attention. Funny thing is, she's the one that's most bonded to me out of all my cats. Go figure.

I read an article that most cats only want to be petted a couple times and that's it. They like the closeness and warmth of their human, but being petted more than a couple times causes them anxiety. I read that just last week and I've been scaling way back on the petting of my cat. A couple pats on the head, a couple body rubs and that's it. I let her set the pace. And sure enough, she is content with just a little touching by me.

That might be true for some cats, but I don't think it applies to all cats in general. Some of my guys will lay in my lap and be petted literally for hours and never get tired of it. With others, a little bit goes a long way. I suppose it has to do with their mood at the time as well. I never try to handle my cats if they are agitated about something... just not a good idea. For me, the trick is knowing their personality, being able to read their body language, and above all paying attention to what they're telling me.

I agree with catdad. Felines have such varied personalities. This is one of the things I love about them. Each cat is very unique. It all depends the the individual kitty.
