That might be true for some cats, but I don't think it applies to all cats in general. Some of my guys will lay in my lap and be petted literally for hours and never get tired of it. With others, a little bit goes a long way. I suppose it has to do with their mood at the time as well. I never try to handle my cats if they are agitated about something... just not a good idea. For me, the trick is knowing their personality, being able to read their body language, and above all paying attention to what they're telling me.
I find this to be true as well. We have one cat that I could pet until my hand fell off and I don't think he'd tire of it, another who bites after a few strokes, and the third who seems ok with it for a while then leaves. He likes to sleep snugly against me however, the other two just like to be nearby. I agree about body language, one of my cats bit me so bad once that I had to get a tetanus shot and antibiotics. He was overstimulated and I wasn't paying attention so he bit me.
Neither one of my cats will play in boxes or bags. They are almost 12 but I don't recall them ever doing that. Now they will sleep in anything too small for them but they don't evn try to sleep in a box a bit bigger than they are.
A photo session on the cat tree today, when she finally tired out. Eyes are turning gold now.
