It's becoming incredibly hard to take the "the rest of the world" seriously when they call us a backwater.

No offense but that's not the Canadian flag planted up there on the Sea of Tranquility. Or anyone else's for that matter.

And no, I don't believe that the US is perfect, by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah with the resources to put a flag on the moon maybe it should have provided decent healthcare and education to all its citizens instead? Or built a high speed train that actually is useful to the people instead of bragging about the moon?

Fair enough but take into account that there was a lot of Canadian talent that helped to put that U.S flag on the moon. Many Americans are ignorant of the shared success of many technological milestones made by the U.S with Canadian talent and ingenuity helping to make that happen.. Of course vice versa as no nation is an island. Canada has done more than its share in these regards relative to its population throughout our history.. I invite you to research that.

Landing on the Moon was a giant leap for mankind, not just Americans. The human race will need to leave this planet some time in the future, it will be a matter of survival. But of course making sure some meth addict in Saskatoon has health insurance is more important.

Agreed, just don't be so stupid (not you) to call the US a backwater because of a few social issues. Gay marriage and abortions do not in and of themselves illustrate progress.

no, please speak for Americans. Mankind don't need Americans to represent them.

Well I think some people have high expectations of the U.S on practically every front just because it is seen as the leader of the free world. I think it is unfair.. Every nation has its skeletons in the closet and like any, it too needs to develop and improve.. No country is perfect.

If you believe the garbage about climate change we may need to leave the earth to avoid being submerged, boiled, baked, or otherwise destroyed.

Apparently there is an international conspiracy going on with the bulk of the scientific community the world over covering things up on behalf of what - hmmm the Green economic movement. Only climate change naysayers are the one's who have the information right and are SME's - in other words the earth is still the centre of universe people
