After the election I've read where the governor and some of the legislature have said that now they will have to get down and dirty and work on the budget. Hello isn't that what they should of been doing to begin with? Then they could of saved the millions on the election. But no they want to take the easy way out and see if they squeeze it out of the taxpayer! oh and maybe I should of worded it Shouldn't republicans be for less government because they have wandered away
Unless you can be specific there really is no dialog. A little reading on what the budget includes would help. No Republican has been able to identify what is government waste aside from a few obscure small budget items. Just voting against taxes doesn't solve the problem & many are now calling for the end of Prop 13 that I and other homeowners rely on to keep house taxes down. Also, a constitutional convention by doing away with the 2/3rd Assembly\senate vote to approve a budget.

what happens when the bankrupt do bailouts?
what happens when a deadbeat covers your bet in a casino?
they go after you and the deadbeat. (and it gets really ugly)

I agree. That provides for full accountability. When the state goes belly-up the blame will be clear. It will be the majority party's.

Depends on how someone defines waste.
I define waste as politicians using govt money to travel out of state just so they can get a free trip, buy concert tickets, pay for fuel for cars for personal use. Educating illegals. Giving illegals in-state tuition.
And that's just a start, if any of us actually got to look at the budget I am certain we could all find plenty of waste.

Another proposal is to eliminate "term-limits" in order to avoid "inexperienced" lawmakers to deal with serious problems. If Republicans could at least ID what they'd like to eliminate this discussion would be credible. No ideas & no power leave the GOP insignificant in California [even the Republican governor no longer consults Republicans

I did that for 17 years as a legislative analyst and testified before both policy and fiscal committees of the Legislature on my findings. It didn't matter. Their minds had already been made up for them in caucus and that's how they voted. Common sense and fiscal responsibility be dammed. Follow the money. As "Big Daddy" Jesse Unruh so accurately exclaimed, "Money is the mother's milk of politics."

Back in the day at least politicians and their staff members knew how the "game" was played. Your word was your bond and trust was the basis of not just your reputation but your access and ability to get things done. With term limits and with the exception of committee staff and lobbyists, everyone is so green that by the time they learn the ropes they're gone -- likely replaced by a husband, wife, brother, sister, cousin, mother, father or some other member of the dynasty they've begun.

California's legislature is nothing if it's not insular and incestuous. It's also unexperienced and eats its young.

What a laugh.

California is a donor state when it comes to Federal Taxes. Know what that means?

It means that California sends $290 Billion to DC in taxes BUT we only get back $240 Billion in spending.

THAT MEANS THAT 50 BILLION OF OUR DOLLARS IS SPENT MAKING VIRGINIA, MARYLAND and A BUNCH OF MOOCHER RED STATES RICHER WHILE WE ARE LEFT TO FIND 50 BILLION DOLLARS ELSEWHERE.

Damn anyone who dare tell us that DC is going to bail CA out!

AS IF.

ITS OUR MTHFKNG MONEY TO BEGIN WITH!

The problems with the state budget in CA have nothing to do with the amount of money that the CA taxpayers send to Washington. It has everything to do with the fact that that the folks running the state of California have simply been spending more money than they have and using creative ways to put it off into the future. Unfortunately for California, the future is now.

And in regards to the net outflow of federal tax monies from California. That is simply because there are a disproportionally higher number of upper income bracket taxpayers in California realtive to most other states. and you are seeing Uncle Sam's redistribution of wealth in action. With Obama's plan , this outflow from California will only get worse, but hey, that's what the Dems wanted, right??

Actually this is what happened:

Quote:
But the D.C. area's sunny job prospects are what vaulted the D.C. area to the top 10. And much of that came courtesy of the federal government, which pumped $55 billion into the local economy.

A move toward using local contractors helped the D.C. area supplant California several years ago as the top region for federal spending, said Stephen Fuller, director of George Mason University's Center of Regional Analysis. He said the federal government was like a "rich uncle" to the D.C. area.

"It is our Detroit auto industry, only it's free money and we don't have any competition," Fuller said.

Why does California even need DC again?

Cal spends 13.5 billion per year on illegals. Stop that and we will have come a long in the effort to eliminate the deficit. Also if we cut off the benefits maybe they wouldn't be so excited to get here. Then there would be more jobs available for teenages and others seeking jobs or have the people on welfare do some of the jobs illegals do. it sounds fairly simple to me, but who am I. Just a tired taxpayer.

I agree 4 beanie,
If it weren't for illegals we wouldn't even have the problems today.
Illegals are the reason that the US govt should bail out calif. It is the US govt's responsibility to stop illegals entering calif and it is their responsibility to pay for them it they refuse to stop them.
