In my case the need for a weapon would arise when walking our Airedale on the street or out in open country, which could make us the target of vicious dogs.
I have a taser and carry a knife sometimes, but neither would protect us fully from a determined attacker or two.
A dear neighbor was viciously attacked by a raccoon. Her miniature poodle survived but she (not the dog) had to take rabies shots and I heard these are painful.
Get a can of bear spray, it's easier to get coyote or any other animal away with that than by trying to shoot a gun at them.

Criminals are smarter and/or more resourceful than all of us. They've already figured out their ammo resupply issues

Places like Cabelas have parking lots filled with CA plates. I've never seen a cop pulling anyone over that I know and that is a LOT of people. People like me hunt AZ, NV, UT and CO all the time and we drive through with lots of ammo all the time. I've never heard of anyone being stopped back in CA. The border patrol and Sheriff think it's a flippin joke. Did I buy that ammo on the dash in Yuma or Winterhaven? It's up to them to prove it. They aren't going to waste their time. Same in Lake Tahoe.

Someone I know (or me) would have been busted by now. It's not even something we consider.

I said that before, there's no law forbidding you from driving from Nevada to California with ammo in your car as long as you don't volunteer the fact that you bought it in Nevada after the law was passed. We lived in Reno and visit our friends there once a month or so and buy our ammo there

The news is definitely out there, and there are lots of cases of DOJ following people. I suspect they don't do it all the time, but rather only when there is a big push ordered by their bosses in Sacramento. I wouldn't think about it either, but would just be careful to not drive directly across the border, go to a gun show, and then drive right back. I doubt the DOJ agents feel real good about doing this, unless they're the younger SJ ones....

I’d be interested to read any coverage of what you describe. Can you link us up? Thanks.

I already did...#473. You should pay attention

If you really care to learn and not just argue, you can google the words - CA. DOJ. following. gun shows.
There were lots of articles on the subject as I recall , I just posted the first one.

If I were to do this, hypothetically, I'd go to LGS/ Gun shows to buy cases of ammo then check into a hotel. Go enjoy the all you can eat buffet and a show afterwards, get a good night's sleep before I headed back to California.

I pity the DOJ agent who spent the night in their car tracking me.
