My two favoriate CA cities are San Diego and San Francisco. You said you prefer southern California, so I guess that leaves San Diego.

I haven't been to Santa Barbara, but I also hear very nice things about it.

I personally wouldn't choose Santa Cruz. It's a pretty nice town, but you get a similar experience with warmer winter weather in San Diego.

Nah, Santa Cruz is in a great spot, and outside the city limits is fine - but really, Santa Cruz is about two things.

Annoying hippies (usually with a trust fund), and bros in lifted trucks.

Oh c'mon now.
That's just so ridiculous.
I never was good in math but i'd say about 95% of people you see in and around Santa Cruz are neither.

I think that picture is 10 miles from San Luis Obispo at Avila Beach.

It's just such a cliche perception.
How many homes do you think there are in Santa Cruz?
Kind of a lot enit?
And who lives in those homes?
The vast majority are rather average people who get up and go to work in the morning ... not trust fund "hippies", "bros" and homeless.
