True but AZ isn't humid. Although I guess if it's 110 it wouldn't really matter.

The south happens to have higher populations of poorer people and also African American people.
There is also a correlation between voting GOP and obesity. As much as they harp on "cutting the fat out of government spending" they aren't very good at cutting the fat out of what they toss down their gullets.

Well the heat & humidity doesn't explain Florida which has the same type of weather as the rest of the Southern states yet has obesity rates comparable to Western states. Then again Florida isn't really known for it's "Southerness" in it's culture or cuisine save for the panhandle section.
PS: We voted for Obama also!

Florida's only half Southern.

I'd have expected NY's obesity rate to be lower but then NYC isn't the whole state ; if it was counted separately from the rest of the state it would be the thinnest in the country.

^ sorry but I would say Florida is 1/3 southern! People start talking about "southern culture" once you head north of the Ocala area. There is a reason we call the panhandle the "redneck riviera" or "lower Alabama"!

LOL @ "redneck riviera".

South FL people I've known refer to North FL as "South Georgia"
