I believe California is becoming too feminized.

I thought I'd always want to go back and visit California. I was born there as was my mom and grandfather. He worked in some of the silents in various production tasks. I grew up in the valley when it was the place everyone thought of with that song. I've lived at various places over socal all my life but got to move away two years ago.

Oklahoma is a very different place. I won't even try to compare it. But a semi-planned trip back to visit relatives this summer or fall looks like it will fall through. But you know what? It doesn't matter. I'll plan on the spring. If we have an early winter then I can't leave an empty unheated house with the furry kids. And deep inside its people I want to see, and since part of the family now lives 20 minutes away, some of them may come this way before I can go that way.

But the truth is I love Oklahoma. It was nice and comfortable before, but I have come to realize that what I want most is to leave the *good* memories in Californa intact and let it change without me knowing about it. I'll visit and see people, but this is HOME now. I know what will be on my mind when I do make this trip is how much I look forward to going home.

I'll not cease reading about California or making comments when questions are asked like why did you leave. But I won't be coming back to stay. I think those of us who find some place we love really are lucky, be it in California, or Missouri or Oklahoma or whereever it is because that is really what matters.

Because it's home!

I've lived in Florida & California not to mention 5 different countries outside USA. I think California / Florida are by far the best states in the union .... and if Calif was for whatever reason not my style anymore ... I would move to Florida in a heart beat .... Hobe Sound is a wonderful small town in Florida. Sarasota is nice too .... Brickell Key in downtown Miami has a very cool vibe.

Joe Namath might be an Alcoholic but the man can live anywhere in the US .... He has sound investments and he chose a beautiful small town in South Florida called Tequesta.

More Millionaires per capita live in Florida than any other state; Fact ... Look it up if you so desire.

The late Dave Thomas ( Founder of Wendys ) could have easily lived next door to the LA’s #1 gay and proud Jew David Geffen in Malibu but instead Dave bought nice huge Digs off Los Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale ….. oh yea, and, every day Dave took his custom made 83+ foot Yacht and fished off South Florida’s coast for a nice ride, fishing or just showing off for the ladies.

In terms of the first bold statement there are all sorts of "otherwises". In terms of the second bold statement, if the parent is able to work then they can't get support. Also, the child has to actually be able to afford it without hardship.

Regardless, I'd be happy to let the state try to sue me for such a moronic code. But it wouldn't happen in the first place, if my parents pensions were reduced by 20~30% there would still be enough to support them.

No, just don't let them extract wealth from the youth via the political system. This is real simple, the pension funds have a shortfall of 20~30% so retired state workers should get a reduction of 20~30% in pension distributions.

Knock knock....anybody home? You do realize that if a decent sized Tornado hit your community it would be destroyed? So, yes if you like dying and/or getting your home destroyed a Tornado would be real cool.

C'mon....Texas does not have real seasons. If you want real seasons move to the east coast.

The average highs in the Dallas area are above 80 for 6 months out of the year. Average highs of 80+ sound a lot like summer weather to me....

Yeah, a thin layer or snow is great fun. You can.....oh wait. You can't do anything with it.

You can try to sugar coat it all you want, the weather in most of Texas is horrible.

Knock, knock, do you realize one good CA earthquake which all scientist say WILL happen will wipe out hundreds of thousands. I am a realist not a worry wort.

TX has four seasons, at least compared to CA which has none and they are mild enough to not cause huge compromises other that a few months of AC $$$.

I don't live in Dallas but believe me 80 sounds real nice right now. I guess some people have a problem with 80s but having spent a tremendous time vacationing in the SoCal deserts it does not bother us. It would be nice if the humidity was a little lower but it is great for the skin. At least my wife says so.

Thin layer? We had enough to build snowmen, take our trashcan lids and go sledding down at he park down the street. Both times it stayed around for 2-3 days. We had 6"+.

To each his own. There are such things as personal preferences. I was just like you and fought my wife for several years before finally giving in. I am big enough to admit I was wrong and not so close minded to check it out.

I am sorry you feel you have to knock someone's choice to look for a better life because you have not found yours yet. Keep looking it will be there when you open your eyes to the abundance of possibilities out there.

Or not. For some reason I doubt that anyone who is so meticulous in picking points to argue, and so general and inaccurate at times, could truly be happy anywhere at all; especially if there are any retirees there who are living a decent life which he would obviously resent and likely picket. It's a real shame!

Good post. And good point about that quake that IS coming. I lived about 20 miles from the projected eipcenter on the San Andreas near Palm Springs. They had just had a bunch of stories about it, especially about the kind of quake it will be before I moved two years ago. And about a week before we had one. I think it was a 4.2 quake, enough to certaily feel but not enough to knock anything down. But it was *exactly* the first slip, then nothing, then rocking motion of the one to come. I was upstairs in my apartment on my bed with tons of pillows, which I got all gathered around me and was prepared to dive under. I did have the *very* clear thought that at least I was on the top floor. At least when the floor collapses I had a chance. Scared me more than any of the more recent ones since everyone was thinking of this big one.

Yes, a tornado hits and you could have nothing but splinters left. But there are HOURS of continuous coverage and warnings. And if one has a better protection system than I do, you can do something about saving yourself. Not with a quake. It's still scary. But every place has its danger. Having grown up with quakes and learned how to go on with life until one happens, I can transfer that to the local maladies.

I'm so glad for those of us who have found that place we want to be and I feel sad for those who never will, especially those who don't have the will to go ahead and TAKE A CHANCE. Wonderful words. Maybe you won't find it but if you have the right reasons for trying how will you ever know if your not willing to try?
