Sounds like you need to reach out more broadly and market your business case to venture capitalists rather than the small business associations. Good luck!
Thx.
I need to do a whole bunch of things. But, I'm rather lazy. So, I'm gonna' keep trying to find someone to do them for me.
Haha being pro business and pro corporation are two VERY DIFFERENT beasts. If you don't think the US governmet is pro corporation you need to pull your head out of your rear end. The US government could give two hershey squirts about small or medium sized family businesses........but companies like 3M have got the US government in their damn pocket. Oohhh poor Mr. 3M CEO...........profit isn't enough for you? Have to make obscene amounts of profit instead? Boohoo! Yes move to a third world craphole like Mexico so you can skirt strict environmental laws and worker rights.
And Canada? What the hell are you guys talking about? Canada has a fricking population of 33 million people with a country the size of the US and about a 1/3 of the illegal immigration problem. Canada is also a very expensive place to live when it comes to the nicer cities and areas. Ever see what homes cost in Toronto or Vancouver?
I agree with the gist of this thread, that small businesses get screwed in America, while big corps benefit from complexity, regulation, and barriers to entry. Just look at our bailout policies, letting community banks die, and then letting Bank of America or Citi buy them up with government-printed money. Or Sarbannes-Oxley, or any one of the dozens of regulations we have that erect barriers to entry into certain markets.
A big problem is that nobody wants to provide liquidity to start up a business. Obama can't help that.
But what Obama can do is influence policy to provide a more streamlined, easy process to start a business and not have outrageous taxes on small business owners when many large conglomerates don't pay any taxes due to what amounts to kickbacks.
Personally, I think the 3M CEO is just talking hot air and maybe his corporation had to pay 1% or whatever on their income.
But you can't ignore small business opinions. Something like 70% of small business owners said Obama has a D rating when it comes to supporting business.
But then again, the recession has a lot to do with this. So I don't know how much of that is colored by economic factors outside his control.
What obama should do is get out of the way.
Remember, he never ran a lemonade stand.
Local townships are a pain in the ass because of permitting. They want their "fair share".
States are a pain in the ass because they want their "fair share".
Don't get me started on the federal level.
One thing they can do is employ people in local townships, the state and the federal government who are actually business friendly and who understand the realities of starting or improving a business.
A local restaurant which a friend of mine owns started the process of adding a deck to his existing building and additional parking to his business.
TWO YEARS of jumping through hoops, environmental studies, permitting, etc. they are finally allowed to start.
Thta lreally should like a more local probelm i permits etc than national. Witht he number of smal businesses that fail its not surprising that mnay can't get loans. Mnay have nothing t base the loan on other than a idea. Wahtthey need is investor money and that only comes with a very good idea and sellig it effectively.Gobernmant loans for startup oif small business are goig to get even tighter with the resukts of it beig a loosig propostion and usauly federal funds goig down thru local goverment agecies. Only the best will endup gettig investors or those that have aassets to back the venture or personal funds to do a large share so the business is backed if loan fails.
