Who will be Boston's next mayor? Michelle Wu or Anissa Essaibi-George? This is going to be a tough match-up because both candidates carry a fair share of strengths and weaknesses. It's going to be important to keep in mind that this upcoming election might determine Boston's leader for years to come. This is not a city that elects one term mayors quite often and not recently at least.

Wu by a wide margin. Essaibi-George is the most conservative candidate (even if she is not a conservative) and all other candidates were closer to Wu than Essaibi-George so most voters will go for Wu.
Frankly I am not even sure who would be the group that transitions to Essaibi-Geroge, moderate blacks that went for Janey?

Very interesting but expected. Essaibi-George definitely courted the more conservative, established districts while Wu took up the areas with more newcomers. Janey took much of the Black vote. It will be interesting to see how many erstwhile Janey supporters as well as Campbell and Barros supporters will throw their lot with either candidate. I'm sure there are some in those high crime districts who support a strong continued police presence and vote for Essaibi-George and there are others who don't trust the police as much and want to see new incremental change who will vote for Wu. There are still many votes for either candidate to get out there.

And for the record, I personally am undecided so far. I need to hear more from both candidates.

I think the Janey camp will mostly go towards Wu. But you never know.

Huh! I didn’t expect Westie to go so hard for George. Don’t they usually fall more in line with JP and Rozzie voters than with Southie and Dorchester? That was the case in 2013.

West Roxbury is easily the single most center-right leaning neighborhood in the city.

And I suppose Connolly was the more center-right candidate in 2013? In that case, I guess it's surprising that he won JP and Allston?

Westie residents are primarily concerned about schools, safety and property taxes - can you blame them for choosing a candidate who best aligns with their concerns?

I think a lot of it will come down to voter turnout. I assume George and Wu voters will come out to vote, but what percentage of Janey, Campbell, Barros voters will be compelled to do so? Didn't only 20% of the city vote in the preliminary? It's unfortunate.
