Non-Response Follow Up

The second phase of the count includes counting people who did not self-respond to the census. Door-to-door visits span from May 13 to the end of July. Vacant units will receive just one more postcard before they are removed using administrative records. Occupied households will receive at least one visit from a census taker. If they receive no answer, they will leave a “notice of visit” with an online response code and a follow up postcard a week later if there is no response. Census takers will continue to visit (or call) up to six times. After the third try, enumerators can ask a nearby reliable “proxy” for information such as a landlord, neighbor, letter carrier or utility worker. After the sixth unsuccessful attempt, the Census Bureau uses statistical substituted values (imputation) to fill in missing data for the entire household.

Not much more they can do.

An entity tied to a Birmingham construction company has plans to build an office warehouse building near the Flying J off the I-65 corridor.

The Birmingham City Council recently amended the zoning district for 225 Daniel Payne Drive from general commercial to light manufacturing to allow Daniel Payne LLC, registered to Joseph Saiia of Saiia Construction Company, to develop an office warehouse building on the 30-acre property.

“The applicant is proposing to construct a new office warehouse and delivering facility of 225,000 square feel,” said Birmingham Chief Planner Tim Gambrel. “This location has access to major regional transportation networks located within one mile of the I-65, I-22 interchange (and) within two miles of 65/20 interchange.”

Gambrel said future tenants could likely include an HVAC supply company, a packaging-related company, a hardware-related company, an auto parts-related company and a company related to the new electric vehicle industry.

He said the proposal includes a 131-space parking lot and access to the site from Daniel Payne Drive and Sayreton Drive.
