True but there is no other option.

Wells are very expensive here. Water can be had anywhere on the Big island, IF the well is drilled down to sea level. Yes, even at 5000 feet elevation you can get water! If you live close to the ocean, your well water may have a brackish taste or smell to it, but be easy to drill due to the relatively shallow depth. Further inland, the water can be quite good, but the expense of drilling at any depth over about 400 feet elevation is prohibitive.
That makes a lot of sense, MD. I have to remember that the topography is very different than here in Georgia. We have mountains here for sure, but most of us live nestled in the valley where drilling and finding water is no issue (and even at that, there a very few areas left that don't have the option of being served by city/county/municipal water).*

A catchment tank looks a lot like an above ground swimming pool. My mainland sister came to visit me once and thought I lived in an upscale neighborhood since EVERYONE had a "swimming pool".
Lol - she thought you were holding out on her! *:-p

As far as their being an eyesore, maybe so ... But what else are you gonna do? *You have to have water. On the other hand, I've seen several listings that boast that the catcment tank is under the house, so I guess there are ways around that.*

While living in the Carolinas our HOA were at us about our umbrella style clothes hanger which was behind house and fenced and hard to know it existed, as well as our cedar chip landscaped hilled property that no way could have a lawn maintained even if we wanted a lawn. In AZ we were reported for parking our main vehicle mini van size slightly off of our driveway unto graveled ground . HOA apparently have nothing to do but cause grief! Both of our properties and homes were well maintained by us. The AZ was a rental and Carolinas a home we owned.
