Sigh - I guess you didn't read any of the facts - homelessness in Hawaii is mostly driven by addiction, domestic violence, and the mentally ill. Not the cost of living. Homelessness is a choice and more laws abolishing homelessness are needed. It should be criminalized to the fullest extent of the law to drive people to working.

Oh really? 17-42% of Hawaii's homeless are employed full-time according to a recent homelessness statistics from homeless services in Hawaii.

“People don’t know they’re affecting local folks, but when [they] move here and buy [multi]million-dollar homes, that jacks up everyone’s value,” said Chun Oakland, who represents an urban district where many homeless live.

Honolulu’s sit-lie law is unconstitutional and points to Hawaii’s historic “law of the splintered paddle" which is in the Hawaii constitution
(more evidence of outside influence?)

You linked to Al Jazeera America, ha ha ha ha. Seriously, that was funny. One extremist to another.

Anyway, the sit lie law is not only in effect - but has been recently expanded to downtown/Chinatown. If you lived here you would know that.

Let me link you to a Hawaii newspaper and this quote:

"We did sit-lie in Waikiki and it's worked miracles," the mayor said. "It's changed the look and feel of Waikiki."

But alot of cities have found the anti sit/lay laws to be unconstitutional. Anyway it appears that this isn't a discussion anymore. May i point out that the anti sit and lay laws are also a mainland issue for a mainland problem. Further, i will let you think about how unconstitutional or ugly and unhumane it truly is for an island 2000+ miles away from other land to have a law like that?

@Whtviper1

You call me an extremist, you do know what the letter of the law says on the anti sit and lay law?

I suppose you can get used to any life style, and a person that lives on the streets and likes it because its freedom (not accountable for any thing ) and we pretty much support it with taxes. Why O Why would you not except some one that has busted his butt and worked hard and was accountable for everything his or hers whole life . They are entitled to purchase a home anywere and for whatever price they choose. BTW I was in the OD from 71 to 73 and I am not on the streets. Oh how do socialists put it . I won life's lottery .

I disagree with any legislation that requires anyone to have a permanent address in any part of the world. Why does one need one? Some people like to travel the world and experience different cultures, and many of those are important artists in our time. Some, are simply adventurers who are happy living in a tent wherever they go.

If a traveler isn't bothering anyone, isn't hurting anyone, and isn't making a mess of the place then why not leave them alone?

I've been what you'd call homeless more often than not in my life, AND I've also bought and owned four houses. Different times - different measures called for, and all that.

I'm opposed to any further restrictions on people's ability to roam the Earth at will - peacefully and respectfully, of course. I love Hawai'i, and Maui in particular, and sometimes I want a hotel or a house, and at others, I want my tent.

I'm not hung up on material possessions, and the last time I read anything that matters, that wasn't a crime; quite the opposite. JMHO. YMMV.

Blessings to all,

Mahrie.

Yeah ok, you and your buddy whtviper1 are the same peas in a pod. I can bet you don't even know what hawaiian by heart even means? You can live a life time with a woman under the same roof but not know anything about her. If you have ears to hear you may learn something?

But your right i hardly know anything and im no one but sometimes i know way to much.

No man can peer into the heart of another nor judge what forces rule its chambers.

A man can read a book, just one, and 'live' in that 'reality' for the rest of his life, and who is any other man to judge him for it?

Some men see a woman once and love her forever, without as much as a word exchanged between them. Eyes that have locked only once with another's are often held captive for a lifetime, and no other soul can diminish the poignancy of the love exchanged.

If a man says his heart is in Hawai'i then it is. I know several Hawaiians whose hearts beat and bleed for nothing but money.

Do not dare to tread upon another man's dreams nor presume to know the secrets of his heart.
