Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We are a military family suddenly relocating to the Coos Bay area.......from North Florida. I've read some concerning things about Coos Bay, never having been to the West Coast or this area I don't know what to expect.

I also see the North Bend area is close...is it better? Or perhaps I need to look further away....? Strongly concerned about schools, high school and elementary.

Thank you for any advice or help,

North Bend and Bend are different locations. North Bend is on the coast just north of Coos Bay as you already mentioned. Bend is on the eastern side of the Cascades.

Could the mod move this thread to the general discussion?

No problem. Both are beautiful areas for totally different reasons!

Hope you find the info you're looking for!

Yes, Bend and North Bend are two totally different places. As far as NB vs CB, they are pretty much the same city. There are connected at the hip, so there is pretty much no difference. I assume you are Coast Guard and the base is actually in NB, but no matter where you live in either city, it is an easy drive as the area isn't that big and there isn't any traffic. The area where the base is is called Airport Heights. The exchange there isn't huge, and there is no commissary, but there is no sales tax in Oregon, so shopping at the regular stores isn't a big deal. Hope that helps a little.
