It's not really to my taste either, but I have to admit the level of craftsmanship is excellent. It's clean, I have to give him that.

Is he running some sort of nitrous setup? Or is that gas cylinder something else?

two thing I dislike are the massive exhaust stacks which cuts into the bed and the 20" rims and low profile tires which suck for towing and off-road besides that it's a clean 13 year old truck

Not in my opinion. Rear axle and trailing arms are slice and dice... not only that but there is no lateral stabilization! Engine is hacked up, no rear bumper, ridiculous tailgate, bed is now useless... the truck is nothing but a show piece and a tacky one at that.

He should have made it look like the beast truck from Role Models instead, but it's a nice orange truck otherwise minus the tilted plate.

Tilted plate is ugly even for a show truck. I think its safe to say that this truck will not be doing any serious lifting. I actually expected much worse from the thread title but other than the exhaust and rear plate it looks halfway decent (although not my style).

I was hoping to see carnage pictures from a catastrophic engine failure.

Yeah definietly tacky...
I didn't see a tank, but a lot of times people use Propane in diesels. It's equivalent to Nitrious in a gasser engine.
