If you do buy it, you want to see it in person, test drive it, etc. before you make a bid...don't bid on sight unseen. I'm not spun up on Supras like I am on Grand nationals...I know people sometimes like to beat on them so there's certain things to look over.

I can't answer if you're mature enough to own a fast car or not, only you can. But if you think it might get you in trouble you may want to rethink. Nothing worse than having a pile of tickets to pay, no license and a trip to the booty house.

I can understand though being fed up with driving a car that can't get out of it's own way...been there many times myself....perhaps something not as powerful as a Supra but not as doggish as an Escort might be a good compromise?

I am still undecided. One of the main problems is I live in Las Vegas, and the Supra is in Florida so I have no choice on buying it sight unseen. It has now met the reserve price of $1,999, but who knows how much higher it will get by the end of the auction. My plan was to fly out there, and drive it back to Vegas. I love mark 3 Supra turbos, and unfortunately there are NONE out here. I am on Craigslist daily, so I am torn on what to do. This car seems to be perfect, especially since it is already modded exactly how I want, and all the necessary repairs have been made.

Well you could take a huge gamble, bid on it and win, then fly out there, but it's hard to say if it won't be a lemon when you get there.

Do you have any other types of newspaper classifieds or such around the Vegas area that you could browse thru for a Supra?

If you really have changed/matured/learned your lesson and have the financial ability to swing the trip to Florida and any necessary repairs and insurance the car my need, I'd say you deserve to drive the car of your dreams. I wish you well!

Maybe someone on CD who lives in Fl. could go check it out for you? Or any other acquaintances in Fl.? Hard buying something like that sight unseen. So much trust has to go into the seller.
Next question.....does it have tinted windows?????
Good luck with what ever decision you make.

Supras are popular with the import tuner crowd because the cars are fast to start with, the engines are very strong, and they engines can easily be modded for significantly more power.

That's the problem. Most of the owners are import tuner types. They drive fast, occasionally race on the street.

Other than some rust - that one LOOKS good. However I think a twin turbo Supra is not a good choice for the OP. Even if reliable - it's ongoing care and feeding will be much much more than he is used to. The tires will cost 4X what he has on his Escort. I assume that car needs premium fuel as most turbos do.

I wouldn't buy that without a thorough exam by a mechanic. I would want a compression test, a thorough look at the chassis looking for signs of repair, and I'd want no sign of oil consumption.

I doubt by the way that he will be able to buy it for his spending amount. The current bid is $2K with 3 days to go. I would guess many Supra fans are watching that car now and will bid the price up before long.

An 23 Year Old Toyota Supra Turbo from Florida . . . I smell lots of high cost maintenance with plenty of headaches.

MY TWO CENTS WORTH.

I have only purchased 2 used cars in my life and 2 used bikes. All of these I have known the owners, several were guys I worked with. I knew how they treated their vehicles, seeing them and test driving them several times. I always have in the back of my mind when someone is selling something. Why are they selling it. More times than not, there is a problem they want to unload, or a potential problem. Buying off CL, pics dont tell a whole story, or buying sight unseen to me is nuts and is asking for trouble. When I buy a used anything that I may have to depend my life on or spend a lot of money on. I do a lot of research on to see the problems this vehicle or bike might have. Some dont just come on with mileage they are just bad design to begin with, waiting for you to come along and try to remedy. Any turbo car you need to check out carefully. I have worked in the auto industry for many years and will tell you most people do not know extra care must be taken if your vehicle is equiped with a turbo.

You say that you have matured enough but then you state that you have no problem driving 15 over. Get a grip dude, if you see that 15 over is ok then you are not mature enough to handle a sports car within the law. DON'T buy it. If you do, you will end up back in prison again. Can almost guarentee it.
