OR!

We grew up? we are being replaced by a generation who do not view the car as anything more that to get food door dashed or drugs delivered as they basement warrior.

In my own instance, I have retired from most of my 'automotive' endeavors NOT limited to just racing, and now Im a spectator. It was fun to hobnob with the brass at PRI and rub elbows with the collectors at Carlisle events. Now, I just wanna see the stuff and plan old man projects. I have exactly zero interest in going back to the oval as a driver, or crew and in the stands, if I have time.

Because it's boring to watch, and expensive to actually participate on your own.

2008 killed a bunch of interest.

Drifting was big with the youth. WRC was big. The recession hurt drifting in general. The recession caused almost all manufacturers to leave WRC.

The F1 netflix doc has really increased the interest in it.

Drifting still is big with the youth. If anything I would argue that this might be the biggest autosport that the youth are into right now. I see a lot of vehicles being modified for this. Some racing in local events, and unfortunately a lot raced on public roads.

I never understood how anyone can watch a boring game like football or baseball. What a bore.
Tennis, hockey, soccer ok more or less.

Auto racing is pure art.

This is it. Federal regulation, uninspired designs, manufacturer cost cutting, and the popularity of SUVs and pickups trucks have turned cars into just another appliance that looks and performs like every other similar appliance.

Car racing is only exciting when there is a huge wreck, the rest of the time its shiny cars covered in logos driving in circles.

Why watch a several hour event when you can watch a 30 second highlight reel instead?

Football, baseball, basketball, tennis/golf you can do the same thing, highlight reel and move on.

Years ago we went to Indy for the Brickyard 400….the worst part was the actual race, best part was camping next to the track. I’d never do it again though. Best racing I’ve ever seen was either my buddy ice racing his pink CRX and winning every race, or a tracks trailer race to end the season. Every vehicle has a trailer and winner is last one still running.

A friend of a good friend was from the area.........All we heard about was the awesome Indy experience (he had a big RV). Literally 10 months talking about it and how its a great party, blast whatever.

So my buddy says when are we getting the invite to go? Silence...........

I don't really like the guy so I call BS on the whole story. Turns out he went a few times in the past but his "connection" at the track was no longer a connection so he would simply have to buy tickets/attend like a regular would and he hadn't been back in years............So the story was delayed BS as in he was talking about good times 10 yrs earlier, not last race
