Why is auto racing so underappreciated and so undervalued in the car enthusiast community? (vehicle, race car)

One of the biggest shock bombs for me as a car enthusiast that I've had since I was a kid is how undermined and under-respected auto racing appears to be in the car enthusiast community, the sport that's literally responsible for giving us a ton of hi performance and cutting-edge car technology?
And no I am not talking about your recreational track driving or your on-the-weekand casualized drag racing, I am actually talking about auto racing as an entire medium, like how the heck is it just so under-deserved? I can understand why normies or even the average sports fan doesn't seem to have high favoritism for auto racing ("Is just cars going around in circles, I can do that running in a track in my high school sports field"), but as a car guy I am amazed to see the sport not get any top respect
What's not to respect? The aerodynamics? The curb weight reduction? How auto racing actually helps improve gas mileage standards? How auto racing has actually birthed many safety features we have on cars today?
Now I don't want the sport to become ever mainstream at all, unfortunately I think there is already an ongoing attempt at that by getting enviromentalism involved, but that's a different story
Plus the sport itself is actually fun to watch, that is if you put attention to detail to it
How could you not appreciate the adrenaline of a 800+ HP beast going so smooth in many corners outta the nowhere and can have a nice decent launch boost?
Plus racing is as varied as they come so there is a league to cater to whatever driving interests of yours you got.
Racing coverage on TV has definitely gone down. I think it's a reflection of the new generation. They are not car enthusiasts anymore. They don't know how to open the hood but can "pair" their phones with the radio blindfolded. Racing is getting squeezed from both sides. I used to follow Formula 1 and Indy races but haven done so in decades. The millenniala couldn't tell a 4 from a 6 from an 8. Who's left?
My opinion is that watching car racing is boring. Participating in car racing is exciting. Unless I’m participating, I don’t care about it. In fairness, I feel this way about all sports.

It's boring if you haven't followed the season. Same thing with football. You won't care about a game If you can't name a single player or coach. When I was following F1, I had a chart on the wall updating driver and constructor points after every race. It didn't hurt that at the time I was driving a Lotus.

What auto racing?
I prefer to watch rally Baja or off road obstacle trail type racing over NASCAR or Track style racing. I don’t think racing is under appreciated. Plenty of people, watch it.NASCAR is hugely popular.
I prefer to go off road rather than watch it on Tv. but I got out of off roading a while back. I was thinking of building a Jeep or some 4x4 and start going again. But it would be a strictly off road registered vehicle where I won’t need to smog it as it wouldn’t be street driven
I actually have a crew cab F350 rolling chassi and drivetrain I’m not sure what to do with right now
Watching big money sponsored pro race cars on a track is boring.
Watching beaters on a quarter mile drag track, exploding, crashing ,breaking down, winning balls out, thats much better entertainment, and much more attainable.
Also, theres too much more types of racing out there thats much more entertaining. Nascar aint the only game in town anymore. In fact Nascar is racing entertainment like Boxing is to MMA. Its old school and dated.
Well, NASCAR is not what it was, the cars are all more or less alike, no Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar action. Formula 1 tends to be a high-speed parade with little passing, but if it's on, I might watch it.
I am not typical as I don't follow sports on TV. Particularly baseball-football-basketball. I just don't care about it, as one guy I knew put it "The plot never varies.". I mean, if you like it, enjoy! But I don't care for it.
