Does anyone know if there are any requirements to selling a vehicle that was purchased out of state and never registered to someone from Canada?

I purchased a truck 2 weeks ago from Florida (and I live in California) and want to resell it. A guy wants to purchase the truck but he's from Canada. He's flying down to buy the truck and drive back.

I bought the truck from a dealer in Florida and have the title which I signed and dated but want to resell to the Canadian guy. There is no place on the title for me to release it so I am filing out a bill of sale but is there anything else needed for him to legally take the truck? I never transferred the title to my name but the dealer wrote my name as the new owner.

Thanks for the help...

There isn't a place on the title for you to reassign it because you are supposed to go the DMV in your state and register the truck in your name and pay the taxes (unless you did at the dealer in FL).

OP has 30 days average to register vehicle. No one prevents him from buying a vehicle, changing his mind, and selling it to someone else.
Basically, do simple title transfer. You are sort of stuck now as you have it signed and dated, and t-fer has to be done at DMV, and then they will hit you with some sort of fees. Should you kept it blank, you could have simply handed it to the guy. Presumption is made, there is no debt or liens attached, cash pay, right?

Looks like you and the buyer had better read, from beginning to end, this webpage from Canadian Border Services before going much farther. The title may be the least of both your problems.

BSF5048 : Importing a Vehicle Into Canada

Especially read the part about having to destroy the vehicle if all it's "papers are not in order" !!

Good advice. I can't imagine a scenario where it is easier and cheaper to import a truck from the US versus just buying one in Canada.

Southern Rust free Cars and Trucks from Nevada, SoCal or Arizona are valuable for people that live in the Rust belt on both sides of the US/CAN border

I get that, but it isn't exactly an easy or straight forward process to import a car to Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions - Importing vehicles purchased in the United States into Canada - Transport Canada
Well best advice I can offer on importing a used Car/Truck/SUV to Canada is to make sure it meets all the Federal and Provincial Government Requirements...

But as a rule unless stated by the seller it is up to the buyer(s) to make sure it meets all the requirements to be imported into Canada I believe but I would make sure though

Definitely. The OP as the seller has nothing to worry about other than the check clearing and signing over the title. After that, it's the buyers problem. I would just be worried about the fallout from a buyer that didn't quite know what the process was.

If I was selling a car I would not let the buyer walk away with an unsigned / dated tittle.
