Tiffer is correct, I think.
And what you posted wouldn't constitute a valid signal so it would still have gotten him a ticket.

So, if he got the same ticket, but caused by bad equipment (burned out bulb), should the cop be able to follow him for ten miles and each time he turns, add one to the counter, and then pull him over for 20 turns without signaling for a total of $1940? That seems excessive.

Most of the cops I have dealt with over the years, write tickets to reinforce that you did something wrong, or collect revenue. If they are not trying to increase the town coffers, they generally - in my experience - are happy to just tap you once. Maybe this cop was having a sour day.

I would ask the judge to plea it down to one instance and hope for the best. Good luck.

It was the solution to Tiffer's problem, not the OP's.

Many of the proper driving procedures in the manual exist as "law" in order that fault can be assigned in the case of an accident. If a crash occurs as a consequence of a driver failing to signal, then that driver can be held responsible for the crash.

It become very easy, though, once those "advisories" are interpreted as law, for a revenue-strapped administration to send out armed and uniformed "tax collectors" to assess draconian fines, when no untoward event has occurred nor even arose as a possibility.

an old thread I know, but if the OP failed to signal and then moved back into their original lane without signaling again, I believe those two acts cancel each other out and he should have stated the widely held legal exception called "Actus Interuptus" to the judge and would have been let off along with an apology from the court.

This is funny. The judge would put it on U tube.

I want to know the policeman name. I will send him a medal.
