In my younger years I moved 1000 miles with a 1976 four cylinder Volvo stationwagon with 260k miles... pulling a small trailer. No problems. But it had a manual transmission and was a daily driver. I would not trust a high mile automatic. You might make it, you might not. No guarantees of anything. And if tranny went while you were long way from home, you either better have money to replace transmission plus extra motel bills while you wait or money to buy another car or you abandon everything and buy a bus ticket. I just dont trust high mile automatics.
Oh there are some that make it to 300k, but I think they are rare and real spin of the old roulette wheel. There were some super light duty manual transmissions in 90s that I wouldnt trust either, but manual transmission, long as you keep fluid level up, will give you early warning of weakness/failure.
My truck (Dodge CTD) has a little over 410K miles. I wouldn't be concerned a bit to take off across country in it.
My Jeep is closing in on 200K miles. Same thing applies.
Well, wait. I need to put new tires on the Jeep before making a long trip. The new tires will be installed this coming week.
