Nope. Ive been a truck girl all the way back since when. The only times I drove cars was when I was married and we had 2 vehicles. My first hubby had a fully restored Camaro which was about as hot as the parts on it (Im not going there since it was back in the 70's) and another time when my s.o. was so obcessed with the Chevy Nova and he too, had one. But its always either been trucks or in one case, I had a full sized van conversion because we needed something big enough for a family of 6, and mini-vans were just coming into the picture. Trucks all the way, for me!
I started out with a 1967 4-door Chrysler New Yorker, and the only reason I got it was because I was anxious to drive. It was a tank! Not long after that, I started getting into higher performance cars in my late teens and through my 20's. I didn't get my first truck until I was 29. It was a 1961 Chevy truck that I restored then later sold. At the time I drove both a sporty car (Mustang GT) and a truck, so I guess it was a gradual transition into mature automobiles!
Like others said here, today I think in terms of practicality rather than sporty looks and something that can go from 1 to 60 in less than 10 seconds.
I was thinking about how most people change as they get older, and their taste in automobiles sometimes changes as well. I know over 20 years ago, if I were looking to buy a new automobile, I would have been looking at sporty models, like Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds, but nowadays, I look at trucks and SUVs.
I know the only thing I would never drive is mini-vans, probably because they just don't appeal to me.
Has your taste in automobiles changed as you got older?
yes i am older. i would like to drive a station wagon. but my friends pressed me to buy a flaming red vtec honda civic with a spoiler.
women like it and so do cops, its attracts both, but its not me.
Yep, my taste hasn't changed much. I've always been into the RWD GM high-horsepower sporty cars including Z28, Trans AM, Corvette, SS Chevelle. Some of these cars were big blocks. I've still have a couple of GM big cars from the 70s - a Delta 88 with a 455 engine and a 76 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with a 500 engine. I even had a Chevy pickup truck with a 454 that would just roast the tires. Whenever I buy or custom order a car, I buy it with the largest displacement engine available. You can never have enough of cubic inches/horsepower/torque.
Even my Kenworth W900L that I custom ordered I bought with the largest/highest horsepower engine available - the Caterpillar C-15 625 horsepower/2050 ft-lbs torque engine with 928 cubic inches and I'm not even a trucker. Just the fulfillment of a fantasy I've had for 30 years.
Nope, my tastes haven't change and they never will.
No, my tastes have stayed the same. My first car in college was a Volvo 122 wagon, and I would love to have another one. My next cars were all Honda Civic hatches... a '74. '78, '79 and then jumping to a '94. And I still love and drive them. Also I can only drive a stick shift car. They keep me young.
Im not into speed, looks or sporty. My truck can be multi-purpose, since its a quad cab it can go from my work truck to a family truck in about a minute, just add the baby seat, and youre set to go!

When I bought my truck in May, I did look at a new Mazda MX5, which is a sporty 2-seater convertible (the new version of the Miata) but common sense easily convinced me to get the Dodge Dakota. I didn't see any sense in paying close to $30,000 for a 2-seater sports car, not to mention the higher insurance rates. Twenty five years ago I probably would have chosen the MX-5.
