Someone has been stealing my gas periodically for well over a year now.
I've tried a gas cap lock from pep boys, but it was cheap, and very difficult to get off. Everytime I went to gas up, I had to find someone to help me get it off...then, some man, broke it, trying to get it off and I had to go and have it removed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Where do you leave your car when this happens? what city? I have never heard of it.
Is it possible that you might have a hole in the tank and the gasoline just drops?

buy a quality locking gas cap, it shouldn't be hard to take off. what kind of car do you own?

I leave my car on my property...but we live in town and our end of town has become full of some not so nice people. And no, the tank is most certainly not leaking. And it shouldn't matter where I'm leaving it, it's happening and I'm growing weary of it...They take out 1/4 tank at a time, and I swear if I catch em, I'm coming out swinging with my baseball bat. If I had a hole in the tank you'd smell it....I'm really getting frustrated....didn't use the car on Monday, and by Wed. it was already down below 1/2 tank? Sheesh??

I paid oh, around 17.00 for a gas cap at pep boys, and this weekend I'm going to call the pontiac dealer to get a gas cap. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it really makes me angry....The last gas cap I bought at Pep Boys was a real problem to get off everytime you wanted to gas up.

Thanks
Creme

Maybe you can look into a surveillance system - they can be gotten very inexpensively now.

My neighbor picked up a basic system at Home Depot for $300. An advanced system can be had for well under $1000 at Sam's Club or one of those places.

Someone who comes onto your property and steals your gas is quite bold and I'd be concerned that it could escalate from there.

This would be the easiest way to help the police to catch the person. If this is not cost effective for you, see if you can narrow down the time of day this occurs and ask the police to patrol at that time......they just might get lucky and catch the thief in the act .

(p.s.: Maybe the person is leaving behind fingerprints on your car? Let the police check for you)
