On a less depressing note, I heard Toby Moody say that Nicky Hayden will not be resigning with Ducati next year. Hopefully we will see him on a more capable MotoGP machine for 14'. Maybe if Cal Crutchlow moves to a factory Yamaha, Nicky can take his spot on the Tech3 satellite Yamaha.
Yeh I mentioned that above.
I could be mistaken, but I think Rossi is signed with Yamaha for another year. I believe it was a 2 year contract. So unless factory Yamaha add a third machine, Cal won't be riding for them. There has been a rumour of a third machine though. For Honda too.
I briefly heard one of the commentators (Nick Ellis or Gavin Emmett) mention Crutchlow might be signing with Ducati for next year. They didn't elaborate after. I don't know if they were speculating, or seriously know something we don't.

I really hope he doesn't if there is any truth to that.

I don't think Nicky's a real diva but you have to believe factory teams have some amenities/perqs that just aren't in a satellite team's budget. I think it would have to be guaranteed a very competitive ride for Nicky to ride for a satellite team at this point in his career.

Agreed. But Tech3 is a good team. They consistently seem to progress every season too. Doing better than the factory Ducati team for the past two seasons and gave Ben Spies a good run for his money on the factory Yamaha last season. Even this season, Cal his given them a good run for their money.
I think Tech3 should drop Smith and pick up Hayden. Or Espagaro. Keep Cal.
Cal said at the pre-race that their bike is essentially the same as Rossi's, alas a couple chassis behind. Suspension, brakes, electronics and engine is all the same.

I hadn't heard the satellite bikes were the equal of factory bikes, I was under the impression they were usually a few tweaks behind. Would just like to see Nicky have a shot at running up front.

Yeh they're essentially equal.
They are a few tweaks behind though. The get very limited factory support in-season. Any new developments usually trickle down to the Satellite teams the following season.
I think Gresini Honda run a season old bike. Possibly with the latest engine.
I think Pramac Ducati is the same. All manufactures have different contracts though, so its hard to tell.
If they are running 2013 bikes, they likely get just about no factory support.
I could be wrong, But I Tech3 make their own chassis based off the factory M1.
If Yamaha can improve their engine a bit to better compete with Honda, I see no reason why Nicky couldn't be a real threat on the Tech3.

Me too. I'd like to see another American consistently on the podium. Spies seems to have fallen short after a promising rookie season on the Tech3 team.
Well, it's official folks. Cal Crutchlow has signed with Ducati for the next two years. Even more exciting is the Pol Espargaro is moving up to the premier class so he and his brother get to duke it out. Pol being signed with the Monster TechIII Yamaha team to replace Cal. Well it was nice seeing you on the podium this year, Cal...
