Considering buying a home in Crestview. I've read roaches live in the older neighborhoods. Don't like roaches. Willing to pay for regular pest control, etc. if it makes a difference.

Thanks for any comments. :-)

I would eliminate that as an issue/concern. It's 100% controllable in your own space and is not a deserving consideration factor in choosing candidate neighbors to live.

Keep your house clean, don't let garbage pile up, don't let old food fester in your pantry, don't create harborage in your garage or storage areas (old cardboard boxes you never open, junk) and you will be deemed an unattractive target by the roaches. Should a stray one venture over from neighbors, they would be easy to control with normal pest treatment with over the counter baits.

Steve

Shouldnt be a problem in a house. Boric acid is extremely safe and a wonder product despite what the pest conglomerates want to tell you, its active ingredient can be extracted and concentrated from table salt. Use a light dusting of that wherever you can away from direct contact with food/plates, obviously in areas with carpet you cant use it. Use baits in those locations.

If you have a problem after using baits/boric acid only then would I get my house sprayed. Its not good for your health IMO.

Just curious if you're new to Austin??? Roaches & mice are pretty common across the city... If you maintain your space and spray for bugs it should be mostly controllable. I still get a couple inside sometimes though... Thankfully no mice!

Ha...no, I've lived in the Austin area my entire life (30+ years). But I've never lived in North Central, and I've never lived anywhere with roaches. I've never had mice either. I haven't even seen a roach in a house in real life. EVER. But I've lived most of my life in the great Northern Burbs ;-).

I live in Crestview and I see one every now and then. But they are rare and it is mainly those big flying ones. Not the little ones that infest some houses. I am sure there are some somewhere in Crestview but I have lived here for ten years and they sure are not around my house and I have never treated for pest.

Lived in Hyde Park close to Crestview years ago. House was clean, renovated, etc. but they still got in every once in a while. They were the big giant ones not the little ones which are really bad. They come from the pecan trees outside.
