That's true. But it still hurts like hell if you're stung. The only real risk if you you happen to be allergic to them (per my doctor).

I've never seen a scorpian down here (I'm from the panhandle of Texas where tarantulas are bountiful). I've seen roaches. And unfortunately my dear, they are huge. I hate them too. Spray Raid around your thresholds (or any roach killer).

I hope you all are kidding about the tarantulas. Come on...You really don't see them often in Texas. Right?

Actually, I've seen more tarantulas here than scorpions. But they were all outside... well, except for one that I found in my garage.

Neither is real common though. Not like the snakes.

I wish I were kidding. But I don't see them that often. I never saw one until I moved into this house in far west Austin 5 years ago. Since then we've seen maybe 4. All were outside.

I see trantulas once a week in Pflugerville. I live in new subdivision though, and all the construction has disturbed their homes. I don't know if they are plentiful in older divisions.

The tarantulas I see are not the huge hairy ones though. Most are only about an inch, maybe an inch and a half. They have no problem being shooed out the door when they get in my house.

Yogagirl. There are insects everywhere in the world. If you are scared of them all, then I don't know what to tell you.

I see tarantulas several times a year, almost always outside. They are harmless and can be relocated with a coffee can easily if you don't like them where you find them.

There is NO reason to end their life.

I dig the tarantulas now. We have them in California, so I'd seen them in parks, etc. when I lived there ... but around here they're right outside your door. The first time I saw one I was a bit freaked out, but our Bulwark guy explained how important they are as part of the ecosystem. He said "if you have tarantulas on your property, you have a good, healthy ecosystem". I did a little reading on them and learned that although they can bite, they very very rarely do, and so I don't fear them and I've actually got really used to them.

We've never seen one in the house - they're just way too big to get in unless they reach up and open the door, lol. We've even named one really big brightly colored one that always shows up on our porches - he's Terrell the Tarantula. He was out there on the ground behind my porch rocker a couple months ago on a really cold day and looked miserable (they hate the cold) so I put two shoes on either side of him and he stayed in-between them and slept for two days before warming up and heading on to wherever it is that tarantulas head on to.

One night my daughter came home late at night and he was hanging over the front door. She actually called me from her cell phone and woke me up to go unchain the back door so she could get in without disturbing him ... lol.
