What happened to the summers of my youth?

Yeah, summers were always hot. But I remember them as being hot in the way that you could still do things - 90s with only a handful of 100+ days. A "hot" summer might have has a dozen 100+ days. Actually, anything above 102 was extremely rare.

Also, the real heat didn't begin in early June - July marked the start of the really hot days. You could still wake up and feel cool in June - at least that's in my memory. And September was warm, but usually the dog days were over by the end of August or first week of September. Now I count myself lucky if we catch a little break anywhere in September.

I hope this is just some cycle and we'll revert back someday. But goddam, I'm sick of it.

Tomorrow's high was set in 1925.

Time has a way of altering perception. This summer has actually been cooler than normal.

It's 90 degrees right now.

It's 90 degrees at 11:42 at night.

90 Degrees

11:42 PM

Don't tell me this is cooler than normal.

The next 10 days forecast - 100+

That is not normal. I didn't just get here.

The last 10 years have been terrible.

I have a photo of my dash thermometer from 1997 showing 100 at midnight. While it may not be normal to live in places like this, it's well within the range of "normal" for Austin - however normal that may be.

I've got an 11:15 tee time at Kizer on Saturday - care to join?

Forecast for 8/23 is 86 with a 60% chance of rain.

It'll be 105 by the time you reach 18. No thank you.

Weather underground shows 8/23 at 106 with zero percent chance of rain. I'm guessing it'll be closer to that.

106

How many days of 100 have we had in 2013 already?

No - this is not normal. Not normal. I'm sick of it.

Accuweather shows zero days in the next 10 over 100. Guess it goes to show that weather happens regardless of what predictions say.

It's been 35 days this year so far, I'd bet on 7-10 more.

35. Easily could be 50 before all is said and done.

What's a normal year 10? 11? days.

We've been having numbers like these every year for 10 years or so.

Ugh - it is maddening.

What I wouldn't give for a normal year. Nothing special, just a return to typical hot Austin summer.

It does go in cycles. The last eleven years have had six of the top fourteen years of 100+ days. Next highest decade is the 20s with three, then the 50s with two.

Last year didn't come close to the top 10 - 28. We might or might not make it this year - 29 days at Bergstrom, but with no 100+ days forecast for the rest of the month. Average last 100+ day is August 28th.

I also think It has been cooler this summer compared to the last few. We also had cold fronts in April and May that typically don't happen. Yes, it's still hot, but it's cooler than last year. My electric bill says so as well.
