As scm53 mentioned for any security system if you are in Austin city limits don't forget you need a permit because nearly every alarm turns out to be false and police waste a ton of time responding:

Honestly a better investment of time and money would be to upgrade your door and window lock hardware, be sure to actually use it, get a DVR system with a few cameras installed, and cultivate a close friendship with neighbors who can quickly tell if something strange is going on. With an alarm system most thieves would be in and out before the police are even notified because the alarm has a delay before triggering, then they try to call you, then they call the local PD. They certainly would be gone before police actually arrive. What the companies show in commercials is so far from reality that companies have been nailed in other states for false and misleading advertising.
