Not sure if I ever answered the OP's question...

Volvo XC60 (11th one sold in Texas, or so we were told...didn't see another 'out here' for almost a year) purchased with NO knowledge that it was one of the 'Twilight' series vehicles.

And our third Volvo C70 convertible(sixth convertible between the two of us).

Both vehicles will nearly fly, but the 'wagon' averages ~20mpg and the vert gets about 22 avg(quite a bit higher on the highway). I wouldn't mind better mileage, but combining trips and reducing unnecessary driving is as important as MPG, I reckon.

Wouldn't mind replacing the XC next year with a trip to Sweden on Volvo's dime. Got one of those pesky 'zero' birthdays coming up and that would be a great way to celebrate! (If you're looking for a '10 XC60 next summer, stay in touch!)

We have an '08 Toyota Tacoma and have recently purchased a VW Golf TDI, manual transmission. The truck sits in the driveway and collects dust. The Golf is a diesel engine and we are averaging 38 MPG, mostly city driving, and through lots of traffic.

That sounds like my ideal driveway! Jealous.

We do about the same - have an old 4Runner that mostly collects dust but comes in handy, and a shared hatchback Toyota Yaris that gets superb gas mileage that's great for traffic/city driving.

Just an update to my original post. We ended up buying a 2013 hyundai Elantra gt because of the hatchback and good gas mileage features. Also, the Subaru dealerships had no cars in stock of the model we wanted. Evidently, Austin is having a banner year in auto sales.

Driving again has been fun. Thanks to all who responded!

Congrats on the new ride...we're seeing more and more Korean vehicles in our neighborhood. They're getting high marks from the automotive press, especially in the past couple of years.

Interesting timing...I've been in touch with the dealer about the deals Volvo has this summer. Instead of waiting 'til next year to go to Sweden on Volvo's dime, we 'might' swap out the '10 XC60 for a newer, zingier model. We'll see how this pans out.

The relative shortage of vehicles is likely a result of the model year transition. Folks are clearing out the '12s and the '13s are just rolling in for most marques.
