Google maps show an Indian grocery store or two in Marietta. The area doesn't have good transportation though, but it's pretty close to where he will work.

Decatur/Scotsdale area also has a good array of Indian amenities and has MARTA buses and a subway station in Downtown Decatur itself if you need to head to Downtown or Buckhead. His commute though is likely around 30 minutes or so by car.

Default Single Girl Moving From Columbus to ATL in March

Hey All,

My company wants to relocate me to ATL in March 2016. I am currently evaluating the area to see if it's a place I want to move to. Current company wants to relocate me, but I'm not sure how long I want to be with the company, will most likely start a new job search within 2-6 months of moving to ATL.

Company office will be located in Sandy Springs, about 6 miles north of 285. Any feedback on the general area would be appreciated.

About Me: single girl in mid 20's, young professional from Ohio.

1. Budget - $800-$1,100
2. House/Condo/Townhome? - apartment or townhome to rent. Want 2 bedroom preferably, or a 1 br with den/sunroom. Family will be visiting, and want to be able to put them up semi-comfortably. Want 850-1,000 sq ft.
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) - commute, would prefer about a max 30 minute commute.
4. Children(public school vs. private) - none
5. Pets: cat and small dog, want to able able to safely walk her several times a day, maybe some dog parks, or enclosed patio.
6. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two, - mix/suburban, but want to be able to go out every so often. Not all that into bars/clubs. But restaurants, movies, festivals, shows, etc. Would like to find a good place to have a drink in the evening.
7. Easy access to public transit, important or not? - not important
8. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. - Would like to be near people similar in age. I'm a creative person.
9. Travel - Travel on Vacation/Business 2-4 times a year

Visiting ATL in Mid January to check our neighborhoods. Working with promote to find apartments to visit. Currently looking in Sandy Springs, Norcross, Dunwoody Roswell, Brookhaven.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Norcross would probably be the cheapest of those areas to live in.

Are they very strict about renting to ppl coming from out of town?
You should look at GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community or SchoolDigger.com - the Easy Way to Evaluate K-12 School Performance to learn about schools. If you need public transportation you will want to stay in Fulton County or DeKalb County, as those areas have MARTA.

There should be no problem with people renting from someone from out of town, that happens frequently! If your credit score is below 600 I highly recommend you spend the next year working to raise it. Rentals are in high demand and it makes it more difficult for people with lower credit scores to find a place.

Best wishes on your move!

The best areas with public transportation are in Fulton County and DeKalb County, that's where MARTA operates. It's best if you can drive or walk areas to see if you would like to live there.

I'm ~ 5 miles from NYC, so entertainment is as near as transit allows, but like the suburbs of NJ (not to mention grass!). Below are my minimal requirements, but have no idea about the what's and whens and wheres of Georgia.

1. Budget: $2000/month or ~400k cost of home
2. House/Condo/Townhome? House/Townhome
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home): Work from home, commute once in a very infrequent while
4. Children(public school vs. private): none
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two: Combo
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? If feasible, but I drive.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. 30s/40s professionals
You can get a mix of urban & suburban by living close to some of the suburban towns with active downtown areas, such as Roswell or Alpharetta. To live a more urban lifestyle I'd recommend Brookhaven, Buckhead, or Midtown.

Message me if you'd like, I lived in NJ for a few years.

Ok I'm going to try and remember everything, plan on moving in less than a month, I'm an RN, looking to rent a 4 bedroom house, need a good highschool, safe area kinda in between city and suburban, not alot of kids, accepts dogs, don't wanna spend more than $1150 in rent. Walking distance to public transportation would be ideal also. And if anyone knows of places hiring for a Registered nurse with 1 year experience in mental health and pediatric home care that would be helpful also. Thank you in advance

Traffic in Sandy Springs is bad during rush hour so you will probably want to stay at least within a 10 mile radius of your job. Look for apartments in the Dunwoody/Sandy Springs area

Hello guys! I am a manager at a retail store from Orlando, FL and saw an opening for the same position at the store in Atlanta... ATL has always been on my mind ever since I first visited. I will possibly might be moving to Atlanta if I can secure the job. The job is located at Lenox Square so I would be near-ish to the area but wouldn't mind anywhere else that is nice, safe, and cheap.

1. Budget $900 is my max. Any less would be awesome!
2. House/Condo/Townhome? Apartment, condo, townhome... whatever I can get!
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) Commute to work, I will be working at Lenox Square.
4. Children(public school vs. private) None.
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two Mix of the two.
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? No.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. Safe and near work would be ideal but safety is my main concern since I will be living alone with a dog. I am very open to suggestions!

Hi and welcome! I know moving to a new area, let alone a new country, can be very exciting AND nerve wrecking. There are a number of Indian groceries in the Marietta/Kennesaw areas. Since you don't have a car yet, you may want to look into getting Marta passes. Marta is Atlanta's transit system. I don't know what accomodations you are currently in but if your husband came over on an H1 through his company, his fellow desi coworkers may be able to help in pinpointing housing areas that are close to where he lives and reasonable distance to groceries and such. I have found that apartment complexes around IT companies have quite a bit of Indian H1's living there and many of them carpool to work and/or for errands. If you get in touch with some good contacts through your husband's employer, that will be a great starting point for you.

I hope this helps somewhat and please let me know if I can help you further.
