Calling these pathetic little sign-waving parties "Tea Parties" is an embarassment, and is disrespectful to our country's forefathers who were willing to die for what they believed in when they held the real Boston Tea Party. These yahoos who were waving their teabags at the capital yesterday will all go back to work today, the news stations will taper off their coverage of these non-events in the next few days, and nothing further will come of it- it'll be forgotten by next week. The fact that everyone is getting excited just because a few people got together and waved some signs for an hour shows just how pathetic we've become as a people- if that's the best "protest" we can come up with, I'm worried......

Good morning People's Republic of Georgia! Glad to see so much liberal tolerance for opposing views, as well as an acceptance for different (dare I say...alternative?) viewpoints.

What?

What's your viewpoint? Lower taxes?...Sort of exactly like what Obama is offering?

We paid ~13% of our income in taxes this year. We made ~170K last year when it was all said and done. This shocked me. How is this fair? I bet you anything someone making the median income (what is it now, ~45K?) probably paid more, %-wise, than we did.

This is why I don't complain about taxes. This is the reality and it's not fair. We SHOULD have to pay a greater % than someone who makes 45K.

* Addition: We own investment property. Investment property is a really wonderful way to lower your taxes come April 15th. But you know what? Someone making 45K most likely doesn't have the ability to own investment property.
Go, pless. You inspired me to revisit my return ... we paid around 10% on income of $95K, mostly due to large retirement savings contributions. Nonetheless, this level of taxation is far from onerous.

Tea bagging anti-immigration protesters may care to note that my taxation is without representation. As a green card holder not yet eligible to apply for US citizenship, YES I am required to pay taxes although NO I do not get to vote.

What?

What do you mean what?

Tolerance doesn't mean not saying something is stoopid when you think it's dumb, or disingenuous.

Tolerance is allowing you to protest at a stupid fake "tea party".

Tolerance does not mean not having an opinion. Noone in this thread said the teabaggers should be arrested or that they shouldn't be allowed to do it.

Anderson Cooper and the other media members who mocked the "protesters" gave them the respect that they deserve. David Shusters "To have a nation wide tea bagging movement you need a Dick Armey" is still my favorite though. I am glad that the media finally got around to figuring out what a farce this was. I was embarrassed that Atlanta was chosen to host one of these things.

This is the second tea party that I'm aware of in Atlanta. The best celebrity they could get for the first one was one of the "regular guy" morning radio nitwits.

And the fine print that has been written wasn't even read by Congress and wasn't released online, as promised, before it was voted on.

We can point fingers all day, and both sides are too blame, what I take from the tea parties is that there is finally 'some' but not much coverage of tax reform.

That's what I want and I wanted it under Bush as well. It's unfortunate that the media picks and chooses what it covers and how it reports on it.

Amen. The tax situation in this country is out-of-control, and it appears that it is only going to get much worse. We need CHANGE!

Lower taxes for ALL taxpayers would be a good start. Also, it's time for the lower economic strata, who pays basically no taxes, to pay their fair share. No bailouts for failing companies. That's just for starters.
