Not really. There is a need to interconnect that is not highway based, especially in GA.

We need connectivity from Savannah to Atlanta, and From both points to points South, for the good of the state and region. Gas isn't getting any cheaper, and fuel costs are already impacting inflation. The more energy independence the better, imo.

Do you know right now, my only option to take rail from here to Florida is to go through New Orleans? That's a damn shame especially since Georgia, and Atlanta in particular is supposed to be this huge transportation hub.

Columbus also has an airport.

Arguably - this helps Columbus more than it helps Atlanta economically-speaking, but as long as we don't have to pay for it, what does it matter?

So who pays for it? More cost effective to use commuter flights to Columbus and its airport.

For you, right now. But maybe not for the actual operators.

I guess theoretically we would all pay for it because it would most likely be federal dollars. But that federal money is gonna be paid to someone for something regardless - might as well get something for our state out of it and use it for trains and mass transit instead of roads. As long as I don't have to pay for it out of local funds, I'm good.

Also - bear in mind commuter flights aren't really the game they care about. It's the larger scale logistics and transportation that's in play here.

High speed rail is frightfully expensive to build and maintain. There is no way connecting Columbus would come close to paying the bills.

Yes. All infrastructure is expensive. it's not built for profit. it's built for connectivity.

Connect places that warrant the investment. Connecting a small city of a couple hundred thousand people at the cost of several billion is beyond atupid.
