I would ignore the above advice, there are a great many places south of Atlanta that are just fine to live in. However, avoiding the need to take the downtown connector for your commute will make your life easier, IMO.

WAY out of the Perimeter! All the way out in N.C. Oops... Besides that, there was NO reason for such an insulting smug remark. I did *NOT* state that the whole south side was bad. I stated a simple FACT. MOST of Atlanta's "ghettos" are on the south side where crime and drugs are rampant. The entire southern U.S. is basically aware of it. I've heard it myself many times from people here in N.C. who know the city or have lived in it. If you want to challenge something don't just jump up and declare that person a fool. That is not a debate tactic. Try to at least get to the bottom of it first.

FYI, you insulted everyone who lives on the south side of Atlanta with your comment.

You shouldn't be so sensitive.

I live in a neighborhood where crime and drugs are rampant in Atlanta and it is not on the southside of the city either.

But the OP has gotten good advice thus far and wasn't even looking on the south side or southern suburbs. Good luck with your search and glad to see you are narrowing it down.

Earlier someone mentioned the area around Lindbergh and if you don't find what you're looking for with your narrowed list, you should consider checking that area out since it is a safer portion of the city and there is MARTA access for you and a plethora of shopping and dining in the area and decent sidewalks. I lived on Lennox Rd and off Buford Hwy for a couple years as a college students and loved it in that area for the convenience and especially the plethora of diverse stores and restaurants. That area is also closer to and home to a lot of Asians.

I should at least thank you for pointing out my poor grammar. I overlooked that atrocious statement when I clicked it. Too bad "edit" eventually dies.

Lindbergh does look promising. I looked up and saw there are many apartments in that region. Can someone suggest the good ones as per my criteria.

Thanks!

I checked the Lindbergh area and there are nice apartments like POST,Tuscany, AMLI etc. However, I saw couple of projects in close vicinity. I am shocked to see that the projects are at such a close proximity.
Can anyone provide more insight on the security of these apartments in Lindberg?

Not a ton of apartments in the Smyrna area have attached garages. My apartment community offers garages, but they are not attached. I'd consider using Promove apartment locator service. They are free and can easily help you limit your search down. It may be easier for you to find a townhome with a garage for rent.

Smyrna is certainly a mixed community but does not have a huge Asian population, except for subcontinent Asians. We do have a large international grocery store just off of Spring Road which is wonderful (I'm Asian) as I no longer have to drive all the way to Buford Highway for groceries.

My husband briefly lived in Sandy Springs for a short time and I work there now. I absolutely detest the entire area. No matter the time of day, it was a chore to get anywhere. We love Smyrna. Even at rush hour, traffic is manageable. Most importantly, Smyrna has a greater feeling of community than Sandy Springs and is more relaxed. Smyrna has Food Truck Tuesdays at the park where people walk with their families to picnic and listen to live music as well as the different seasonal festivals. You always see people out walking, running, and riding bikes in the area and it's just less congested overall.

Good luck in your search.

If you don't think you can handle Vinings, then Lindbergh sounds even less like your cup of tea. Crime can occur anywhere, but you'll have a full blown meltdown in town if being surrounded by people with varying incomes sets you off. You won't be doing your husband's commute any favors, but it sounds like you'll be less antsy in the suburbs. I'd suggest Kennesaw, Acworth, Roswell, Woodstock, or Alpharetta, but as long as he's going to have to be stuck in traffic, it doesn't really matter.

Are you doing all your homework over the internet? Have you actually visited these areas? Based on your initial requirements, I can't imagine Lindbergh being a good fit at all.

I think you are getting distracted - I would stick with the initial recommendations of Cumberland/Vinings or Sandy Springs/Perimeter Mall

Yes, Midtown is a nice area and very walkable (Lindbergh is not) but honestly based on your original post, the other recommendations are a better fit.
