With all the rain, I'm sure the entire park got turned into a giant mud pit.

I remember how protective the Piedmont Park Conservancy used to be, and that year they made the Dogwood Festival take place in the Lenox parking lot (worst Dogwood Festival ever) because they didn't want the sod damaged.

Well, I'm sure the sod is ruined today.

So the big question is, will they allow Music Midtown to continue in Piedmont Park?

MM has to pay PP to use park for 2 days. The money MM pays PP includes money clean up the park/etc. They have no reason not to allow MM back. That's like asking if our airport will stop letting Delta fly from there because someone got into a fight on the airplane

There are some pretty badly damaged areas, but it's not irreparable. They will have to treat & re-seed or re-sod several areas. Honestly, I can't imagine the Peachtree Road Race did any less damage in the rain this year.

Here is a video of the aftermath.

This issue was discussed after the Peachtree Road Race - if you recall it was a giant mud pit.

The event organizers and the park management will inspect the property and anyrepair is paid for by the event. This is typically built into the event budget - they likely buy insurance of some type.

With proper management the park can typically recover from these events (as it did after this years PTRR).

There have been times when the park has taken too much of a beating with the rain, drought etc and events have been canceled or moved but this is in the normal course of proper landscape management

Remember, the city owns the park, not the Conservancy. The City does not coordinate with the Conservancy. The City will pay to have the park cleaned, but the Conservancy has to pay for the extras such as ground cover (grass) and shrubbery repair. It's a total disgrace.

That's not nearly as bad as I thought.

With the weather, I figured the entire meadow would be nothing but a gigantic mud pit.

No, they had a let's-get-drunk-and-trash-the-park-and-disrespect-the-surrounding-neighborhoods festival.

It doesn't matter how respectful or disrespectful you are. If you have tens of thousands of people standing, walking, and dancing on wet grass all day long, it's going to tear it up.

I can only imagine that the park has to be a mess in daylight hours, it was a horrible mud pit in the dark.

Not to get off track from the OP, but I hope if there is a MM 2014 it's better organized. I missed so much of the music with the 1 1/2 hr wait on Saturday just to get in, 45 min at a port-a-potty, and 1 hr for a slice of pizza. Terrible planning, indeed.
