Events like this always leave a mess of trash afterwards.

Since you didn't answer my question, I'll assume you did not attend. Had you did, you would have noticed that there were virtually no trash receptacles present.

Additionally, the people who "view Piedmont Park as a unique jewel" are intelligent enough to understand that volunteer cleanup efforts are insufficient for events of this size, which is why they require the promoter to pay for all of the cleanup efforts in the contract.

Hence, just drop it in the park.

I see what you are saying.

I'm a big fan of Piedmont Park and it's simply foolish to suggest that hosting events like Music Midtown is anything but a huge net plus for the city.

That's not what happened at Music Midtown. 50k+ people standing mostly still all day and/or walking around in an orderly fashion in the pouring rain tore it up. Your suggestion that the attendees were either completely irresponsible or did not care about the park is without merit.
These comments are 100% on the money.

Because we were in a drought then.

I am willing to bet money that random, unskilled volunteers are not allowed to help with the restoration for liability reasons. You're really reaching now.

I'll have to disagree with this. I went on Friday and never had any trouble finding trash and recycling bins. There were several at every beer stand and vending area. The reason there was trash on the ground is because people in a massive crowd know if they leave their spot to go looking for a trash can they'll never get back to the place they and their friends had been standing all day in anticipation of seeing their favorite bands. So they leave it on the ground.

But regardless of that, trash on the ground is not damaging and is easily cleaned up in a matter of hours, as proven by the fact that the park was cleaned up between clear-out on Friday night and gates-open on Saturday.

At the park yesterday. The meadow is closed and in disrepair, as are other parts of the park. This park is used year-round by families and others. Why should folks having fun for a weekend so adversely impact others' use of the park for a much longer period? I'm just not understanding. The park still looks sad, not the green jewel it otherwise would be.

The WHOLE meadow is shut down? They have blocked off that entire area?

Good call. Can anyone cite how long the meadow was shut down after the PRR or Dogwood? Especially the 2013 PRR which arguably caused more damage than MM.
