If I am in rural Georgia, or some other rural location, I might get a derisive snort. Generally, though, the reaction is positive.

Not sure that this applies but when I'm back home in NY and I see someone I haven't seen in a while and they ask where I'm from, they usually wonder why I'm in the South or they ask if the weather is nice.

When I was in high school in Birmingham, the general attitude towards Atlanta was people liked it and came here to shop.

When I went to my high school reunion, the general attitude was have fun, I don't know how you deal with that traffic infested cesspool each and every day.

When I go to other cities, I generally just get asked about strip clubs and the airport.

When I went to TN mountains in July of last year, our server asked us where we were from and of course, we said Atlanta. He said that he thought Atlanta was a large city and that he could never live in a city that large, but he thought it was nice when he visited.

I'm not from here, but when I tell people back home that I moved to Atlanta. It's always "I have a cousin (or other relative ) that lives in Decatur( or whatever surrounding city)....I mean really

I always hear positive things. I've heard everything from I-have-an-aunt-there to I'm-moving-there and everything else. The negative is usually about traffic or how crowded it is but that's typical and that's how major cities usually are.

Generally not very positive, and usually centers around traffic and generic suburbia.
