THAT is the absolute truth! Everyone seems to have a relative that lives in Atlanta.
What I used to get in NYC more often than you would imagine was, "Oh. Did you grow up on a plantation?"

Reaction depends on what part of country I'm in. If in CA or West Coast..."oh, I like ATL". If in midwest, "why would you want to live there". If in northeast, "I want to move there"

The Midwest, where people go to give up on dreams.

I always hear, "trying to move there for a job" or "I hear you can buy a mansion for cheap" or "everyone in Atlanta is gay".....

Cqholt, isn't that the truth. Well the dream when you live in midwest is "when is the nice weather coming" so I can enjoy my 2 months of outdoor activity. I hear they're getting winter storms, snow and the like coming through right now. No thanks. I'll take my chances of having my car/home broken into than deal with that 9 months of out of the year.

"how can you stand the heat?" or "How can you stand the traffic?" or "it's so beautiful with all the trees and landscaping."

I am from the midwest, when I go home to visit and I tell people I live here now, either they have no opinion or they ask why I live here. Friends and family from the midwest who have visited me who had never been to Atlanta before are left unimpressed and never want to come back. Friends. And family from the midwest who moved down here didn't like it and moved back. The only people I've known personally who are impressed with Atlanta are other southerners. I've also met many northeasterners who live here and want to go back where they came from. This is just my experience though.

When I'm in CA, its always "isn't it so humid there?" or "I love how green it is there with all the trees"
