It's relatively safe. However, there is crime in that area. Mostly car break ins. Someone did get murdered and thrown in the bushes there a couple years ago but it's not the norm.

You're going to find crime (car break ins) anywhere in Atlanta

on a scale from 1 to 10 and 10 being the most dangerous, How would Atlantic Station rate. Also, I'd prefer to hear from people who work or live in the area.

I graduated from Tech and lived around Atlantic Station while it was being built.

I lived in Home Park (the old n-hood next to it on the South), I lived right off of Northside Drive b/t Howell Mill, the backway to Kroger before they built that new Condo complex and Walmart area. I lived in Centennial Place apts, south of Campus near the park.

Cars got broke into at all 3 locations, also on Tech campus. However, in Centennial Place our apt. was broken into twice.

I moved back to Acworth and where I live now I'd say 2-3, downtown I'd say 6-7.

FY Atlantic Station is not downtown Atlanta.

It's Midtown.

There's no guarantee you'll meet people who live or work in Atlantic Station on this board. I suggest you visit the Home Park Community Improvement Association's YahooGroup. I believe anyone can browse through messages. I can't remember whether or not you have to subscribe in order to post (although I suggest you lurk rather than post a "hi, I'm thinking of moving to your neighborhood -- do you have a lot of crime" message as your introduction to the group).

I don't know about how security is for the residences - but my sister has a floral shop at the base of the Twelve Hotel/Residences and she has never had any problem with break ins or leaving work on her own to the parking garage. When she had a shop at the corner of 14th and West Peachtree - she was broken into at least three or four times over the course of a four year period.

Keep in mind that if you purchase a condo that you will be parked in a parking deck behind a gate. Of course - that does not insure that your car won't be broken into - but there is at least some sense of security.

Before making a decision on a condo or an apartment in the area - please read the following AJC article on some of the repairs necessary to the buildings at Atlantic Station. Here is the link : http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2008/01/26/atlanticstation0126.html?cxntlid=inform (broken link)

What impact might this have for you as a home buyer? There may be a special assessment to pay for the repairs and/or a stigma associated to the building when you eventually sell. "What hidden things have not been discovered on the building" could be a question in the future purchasers thought process.

I can't figure out how to post a link but if you go to page 9 there is a 5 page thread about Atlantic Station about halfway down the page.
