I am a 22 year old female and am starting a job in Alpharetta in May. I want to live in Atlanta, but I need advice where to live. I am looking for a younger neighborhood. I am active, but I also like having a pretty fun social life so I would like a neighborhood with parks but also a good bar scene. I don't want to live anywhere too swanky, but I'm not very artsy. I'd rather keep my commute to under 30 minutes. I wouldn't mind living in a suburb, but I would prefer living in Atlanta. If there was a crossfit gym that wasn't too far away, that would be a huge plus. I'd like to spend somewhere around $1000 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment.

Thanks for your help!

I am actually in the same boat as you. I'm actually in town now for work and i have been searching for a few months now. I started off looking in the buck head area but slowly moved north. I looked at a bunch of different places, you have plenty of options for an apartment. I'm in the market for a town home as Alpharetta has many to offer for a great price. 30 mins from ATL to Alpharetta is a stretch for a commute. I think it's more like 45 mins during rush hour, take a look around the buck head/sandy springs area. I am always going out to dinner after work with co workers so I am now leaning towards the Alpharetta area. Keep your options open. Good luck

I don't believe you can live in Atlanta (inside the perimeter that is) and have a 30 minute commute to Alpharetta, but it depends if you're at exit 8 or exit 12 (on GA 400). The traffic is bad in both directions. From Buckhead it's a good 45 minutes plus to exit 10.

Well is Alpharetta a fun place to live? Can you give me more details about the area? And I guess as long as my commute is under an hour I could live with it.

I drive from Buckhead (Lenox Rd) to Alpharetta (Old Milton) every day. Granted, I leave quite early (before 7) but I have never hit any traffic. Traffic does get thicker around 285, but it breaks off again quickly. I usually get to work in under 25 minutes. I think the commute is really great actually.

If you work in Alpharetta, you should live in Alpharetta.

Commute to play, not to work.

Where in Alpharetta (which exit makes a huge difference).

The perimeter center area has a nice vibe and you would pretty much be going opposite of traffic (if you use 400) in both the mornings and the evening.

I live in Marietta and work in Alpharetta (exit 12). Because I choose to get to work early (5:30 a.m.), the commute in the a.m. isn't nearly as bad as my afternoon commute.

The Alpharetta area is a really nice area to live and play, and if I wasn't just informed that my job is re-locating me to Columbus, GA - I would have been looking for a new place in the Alpharetta/Milton/Cumming area.

I concur fully - rep point for you

I have never understood the logic of commuting far for a 5 day a week job just to be close to play 1 or 2 days a week. And with gas headed to $4 a gallon and higher, it just makes zero sense to purposely locate far from the job location and waste all that money on gas.

Oh well, each to his/her own...lol.
