Do they want HRT or LRT? Gwinnett Village CID published a plan with LRT. What MARTA can do, and what Atlanta BeltLine/Streetcar are doing as well, is establishing potential corridors. As the study progresses and the LPA is decided, that is where the specific route and technology is decided.

I would say HRT. They have enough people in Gwinnett that would ride it especially if they had a line connecting to Doraville and one to the Perimeter. Like I said it has to be done right and it would pass easy. They just cant say "Bring in Marta" they have to have a more detailed plan to bring to the public mainly focusing on heavy rail

Until the citizens see the price tag, it would be at least $2B.

Clayton County has about 264k residents which is expected to bring in $49 million in revenue with the 1 cent sales tax. Gwinnett County has about 859k residents which would bring in at least $160 million per year so it can be done

That line to Perimeter Center is key. TONS of traffic commuting to/from there on 285/85. A line to midtown/downtown is only part of the solution.

Here is what the Current Style MARTA Rail map might look like with the following added:

Clifton Corridor
Connect 400
I-20 East
I-20 West
Clyton County Rail

Working to Add more fantasy expansions! Will post more when done.

They need to give up the HRT fantasy and just go with commuter rail. There's a nice single-tracked RoW from Norfolk Southern that with some upgrades would make a great commuter rail route, serve the city-centers, bring transit closer to Johns Creek than an I-85 line will, and be as much as five times cheaper!

Not if they go with commuter rail.

Agreed, while I don't necessarily think this has to be HRT, it definitely doesn't need to be BRT.

I like it! Though one tiny little nitpick which I know the existing map makes it hard to alter the existing station symbols, under the I-20 East Plan, the Green Line will also skip Edgewood, Inman Park and King Memorial.

They'll be in the next version of the one above.

Hmm, interesting.

-You pretty much nailed what the Red Line expansion would look like, except the current proposal calls for five new stations through Windward, not six.
-Ditto for the South DeKalb expansion. But even MARTA has that listed as a Blue Line, not Green Line, proposed expansion. If it were the Green Line, then they'd have to expand Bankhead to at least a six-car platform. Currently it can only accommodate two cars, and it is my understanding that it's only designed to be relatively easily expanded to a four-car station.
-It is very unlikely that the Clifton corridor will be HRT. It is far more likely to be LRT. (Sucks, I know, but that's the locally-preferred alternative.
-The proposed rail expansion into Clayton is commuter rail, not HRT. Remember, the single biggest obstacle to the currently proposed HRT expansions is federal funding. I don't think MARTA is ready to ask for a fourth such project any time soon.
