Most of those are already christians. The percentage of atheist in prison is .209%. Not really fertile ground for conversions. It is much better to have 39% Catholics, and 35% Protestants as a captive group to work with. The full list and stats are found at http://www.holysmoke.org/icr-pri.htm .

I think they're worried that perhaps one day the word atheist might not have a stigma attached to it. That probably scares the hell (ahem) out of them

How many times just on these forums have we seen believers try to tag nearly every negative label in the book on us, despite not really knowing a damn thing about us.

Fun and true story: We've had it pretty rough down here when it comes to hurricanes these past couple of years. One day while laying around trying not to die from the heat, my cousin, a Christer, asked if I'd help out cleaning up around her church. I did. That's right, one of Satan's warriors stepped foot on holy soil and did what I could to help, despite me thinking they're beliefs are----trying to be nice (this time)----a little off

It seems like younger people are more open to things and less judgmental, even here in Guns`N Jesus land. I'm not suggesting we're gonna be an atheist nation in the future, but we will, I think, be one that's more tolerant (nasty word, I know).

One day we'll be able to say to people, even some believers, we're atheist and get a "whatever" reaction as opposed to the "OMG! YOU BABY EATING MONSTER!!!" as they make a run for the holy water.

Of course to the true believers (they'll always be around, I think), this will simply be a sign of the times. The "truth" in that Left Behind DVD they seen could happen at any minute. Hopefully by then most people will view them the way they do atheist today.

We'll call it karma

I count thousands of times and than they wonder why we don’t respect their views. I think we ran out of cheeks to turn, and have come to the decision to just return the treatment we get. I think it is overdue.

Perhaps there should be a reverse Pascals wager for the theist.

If they choose to believe and find that they are wrong, they wasted their lives.

If they admit even the possibility that the atheist is right, they can get on with their lives.

For some reason the Evangelicals think God gave them licence to be obnoxious.

question for atheists---do you honestly believe we are here by some random accident in the universe? everything is so perfect from your eyesight to your bones and everything else. the temperature is perfect. not too hot or cold to live-- He gave us grass instead of mud- trees and plants to get food--do you ever think beyond your own nose? all you have to do is LOOK around at all the miracles you can see every day. the fact that you CAN see is a miracle itself. it takes intelligence to believe in God. there is no other explanation for the things around us.

Really? All of these conditions that you describe are because some gawd of yours designed everything for man? Everything is so perfect here for us?

Why disease, age, crippling disabilities, hate, war and famine?

How about humans evolved to fill a niche in nature, and are doing a poor job of it?

It doesn't take intelligence to believe in gawd, it takes gullibility as almost any other answer is as plausible.
