It has probably been asked before, but what the heck.
Why is it such a concern of the religious, most notably the Christians, what the atheists believe?
If it is a debate of ideals, so what? Why all the attacks and attempts at conversion? For the true believer, either way, what is said here is not going to change anyones mind. At most, it may inspire further thought and that is never a bad thing.
because they see it as their duty to spread the word of jebus. otherwise, they themselves may run the risk of going into a firey lake where jebus doesn't visit too often.
it's not a 'debate of ideas'! wish it was! lol
most religious fundies, especially churchies/christies aren't bright enough to see it that way.

So why all the concern?
Alot of religious folk tend to not want to think critically about something so they let their religion tell them what to think. Religions often say that without god there can be no morality, no happiness and no hope in life. The more conservative religious people take what their holy text says as being divinely inspired so since their religion says it's so, then that automatically makes it so in their understanding.
They recognize when the general public knows the truth about religion they will shut them down. Atheists are not often soft spoken on those issues, and will expose the fraud at every turn of the road. It makes Atheist a target of the church. It is lucky for us we are often not an easy target to recognize and can continue blending in while spreading the truth about the religious corruption, lies, crimes against humanity, murders, bank fraud, greed, and in general poor decisions.
When you see the fastest growing belief system is the Non-Religious segment of the population, I have to think the time is close to when people will step back and let religion die.
I think they see doubt raising it's ugly head amongst fellow Christians. Personally I think that, even though they try to hide it even from themselves, most of them have doubts. Converting people helps to keep their doubts at bay and helps confirm for them that they are correct in their beliefs.
For many Christians, I believe they have geniune concern based on their beliefs that we need to be saved/shown the light. These tend to be good people.
I believe there is also a crowd of religious leadership whose concerns are mostly monetary and/or control. Religion is a business and people that don't participate hurt business. Especially, if they can impact/influence other Christians and possibly turn them away from religion. Just my opinion.

Because w/out Christ you're going to go to hell.
Sorry to be so blunt...it doesn't make me happy...but you asked.
Kdbrich, are you certain that hell exists, or heaven? Do you not sometimes doubt your faith? Be honest now.
Think about the most basic belief you have about anything in life--I'm sure you've had a wild, random doubt about it fly through your head. Anyone who is honest will say that at times they doubt what they believe. Of course.

Strange that I have no such doubts. I left them behind when I left Christianity.
I asked because I have been wondering why you hang around the Atheist forum so much. You seem to have a great interest in the "dark side"...I'm not sure your God would approve.
